Cambridge United approach the EFL Cup opener in good form, contrasted by Barnet’s recent struggles. The match at Abbey Stadium is expected to favor the home side, with bookmakers suggesting a solid chance for a Cambridge victory at odds of 1.83. The recommendation is to back Cambridge United, given their current momentum and Barnet’s lack thereof. Fans and bettors alike are optimistic for a successful season start at home.

Cambridge United in Strong Long-Term Form

Neil Harris’ Cambridge United are in good form and are undefeated in 20 of their last 23 fixtures in all competitions.

The U’s are on a seven-match unbeaten run and started pre-season with three consecutive wins. United beat Cambridge City 3-1, Southend 2-1 and Preston 1-0 before a 0-0 draw with Northampton.

Cambridge also played out a goalless draw in their final pre-season clash against Championship side Norwich on Tuesday.

Barnet Rarely Win

Barnet made a solid start in pre-season ahead of their 2026/27 campaign. They beat non-league opponents Hitchin 1-0 and Hemel Hempstead 2-1.

A five-match winless streak followed, starting with back-to-back 2-2 draws against Watford and Luton and a 2-1 loss to Oxford.

The London side then drew their final two pre-season friendlies, including a 0-0 stalemate against MK Dons.

Dean Brennan’s outfit gave up a 1-0 lead and drew 1-1 against Bromley at home on Saturday. Kabongo Tshimanga scored after 11 minutes and Barnet conceded midway through the first half.
