Celtic open their Premiership title defence by hosting Dundee at Celtic Park. The Hoops have a strong head-to-head record, winning 36 of their last 43 meetings against Dundee, who haven’t won at Parkhead since 2001. Celtic are tipped for a comfortable victory, with expectations of over 2.5 goals based on both teams' recent attacking form. New signings could feature for both sides. With manager O’Neill confident in his new forwards and Pressley securing a new contract for Dundee, fans can expect an exciting opener.

Celtic vs Dundee Predictions

Celtic begin their Premiership title defence against Dundee at Celtic Park on Monday.

Martin O’Neill’s side finished last season with five successive competitive victories, and another home win is expected at Parkhead.

I have my stake on Celtic to win with at least three goals scored.

Goals Tipped at Celtic Park

  • Dundee have seen over 2.5 goals in 9 of their last 12 matches
  • Dundee lost 15 of their last 17 matches against Celtic
  • Celtic have seen over 2.5 goals in 9 of their last 11 matches
  • Celtic won their last 9 matches (competitive fixtures)
  • Celtic won 8 of their last 10 matches against Dundee

Hoops Hold Head-to-Head Dominance

Celtic and Dundee have met 43 times since 2003. Celtic won 36 games, while Dundee claimed only one victory. Six matches finished deadlocked.

Dundee have not won at Celtic Park since 2001.

Celtic Begin Title Defence

Celtic return to competitive action after completing another domestic double last season.

Martin O’Neill’s champions finished their league campaign with four consecutive victories, including a dramatic 3-1 final-day win against Hearts.

The Hoops then completed the double with a 3-1 victory over Dunfermline in the Scottish Cup final.

Pre-season has been a little underwhelming, with the Glasgow giants winless from four summer warm-up fixtures.

The Hoops completed their pre-season preparations with a 2-2 draw against AC Milan at Celtic Park. Camilo Duran and James Forrest gave Celtic a two-goal advantage, but Francesco Camarda struck twice after the interval to secure a draw for the Italian visitors.

O’Neill’s side also picked up 1-1 draws against Middlesbrough and Shelbourne after a 4-1 reversal against Sporting in their first contest of the summer.

Strong at Parkhead, the Hoops won 15 and lost only three of 19 home Premiership games last season. An average of 3.05 goals per game was scored in those fixtures.

Dundee Impress in League Cup

Dundee begin their Premiership campaign after securing qualification for the League Cup knockout stage.

Steven Pressley’s side scored 14 goals across their four group matches, including a 5-0 victory at Annan Athletic.

The Dark Blues completed their campaign with a 4-0 home win against Clyde, with Alan Forrest, Simon Murray and Joe Westley among the goals last week.

Dundee finished eighth in the Premiership last season after conceding 61 goals in 38 fixtures.

A dismal record in this fixture offers little encouragement for the Dark Blues. Dundee conceded 25 goals while losing seven of their last nine matches against the Scottish champions.

Celtic vs Dundee Team News

Celtic: (4-3-3) Viljami Sinisalo; Colby Donovan, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Dane Murray, Kieran Tierney; Callum McGregor, Luke McCowan, Arne Engels; James Forrest, Camilo Duran, Sebastian Tounekti.

Celtic manager O’Neill has a couple of selection issues. Liam Scales is suspended, while Benjamin Nygren remains doubtful because of a minor Achilles problem.

Club-record signing Kasper Hogh could make his competitive Celtic debut after completing an £11 million move from Bodo/Glimt.

The Norwegian striker is expected to lead the attack, with Camilo Duran and Sebastian Tounekti providing support from the wide areas.

O’Neill is confident his new forwards can link up successfully this week.

“I would think that, given time, the two players should be able to play together without a problem,” he said.

“I don’t know whether it means changing systems, changing all that type of stuff, but they’re good players.”

Dundee: (4-2-3-1) Kieran O’Hara; Bradley Halliday, Ryan Astley, Owen Bevan, Drey Wright; Ryan Finnigan, Ethan Hamilton; Joe Bevan, Zan Besir, Charlie Reilly; Simon Murray.

Dundee boss Pressley could make changes to the side that started the League Cup victory against Clyde.

Summer signings Idris Odutayo, Ryan Finnigan and Alan Forrest are likely to make their Premiership debuts for the Dark Blues on Monday.

Experienced forward Murray should lead the Dundee attack after scoring from the penalty spot last weekend.

Head coach Pressley committed his future by signing a new contract earlier this week. The 52-year-old replaced Tony Docherty in June 2025.

"We'd been discussing (a new contract) for some time," Pressley said. "And obviously I'm delighted to get that over the line.

"From just a personal perspective, it was really important. I've been living up here without my family and my wife for the best part of a year, and I think sometimes people forget that managers are actually human beings."

Verdict

Celtic will be keen to make a bright start to the defence of their Premiership title at Parkhead.

I expect the champions to win with at least three goals scored.
