Indonesia and Vietnam face off in a crucial Group A contest at Pakansari Stadium. Both teams are unbeaten, with Indonesia showing solid form and defence under coach Herdman, while Vietnam rides a long unbeaten streak despite a recent draw with Singapore. Recent encounters have been low-scoring, so another tight, defensive game is expected. Key players like Mitchell Baker for Indonesia and Nguyen Dinh Bac for Vietnam are likely to feature, but the main recommendation is a bet on under 2.5 goals, given both teams' defensive records.

Indonesia vs Vietnam Predictions

Indonesia and Vietnam meet in a crucial Group A contest at Pakansari Stadium on Monday.

Both nations remain unbeaten in the tournament, and a potentially hard-fought battle seems unlikely to deliver a high-scoring outcome.

I have my stake on under 2.5 goals scored in a game that could finish deadlocked.

Tight Contest Tipped in Bogor

  • Indonesia conceded an average of 0.33 goals per game in their last 6 matches
  • Indonesia have seen under 2.5 goals in 6 of their last 7 matches against Vietnam
  • Vietnam conceded an average of 0.33 goals per game in their last 9 matches

Indonesia Edge Head-to-Head Record

Indonesia and Vietnam have met 20 times since 2004. Indonesia won seven games, while Vietnam claimed five victories. Eight matches finished deadlocked.

Recent meetings have been tight, with only eight goals scored in seven meetings over the past five years.

Indonesia Maintain Perfect Start

Indonesia return to Pakansari Stadium after collecting six points from their opening two Group A fixtures.

John Herdman’s side began their campaign with an impressive 5-1 victory against Cambodia at Pakansari Stadium. Mitchell Baker enjoyed a dream international debut, scoring a hat-trick as the Garuda cruised to a commanding win.

Indonesia were made to work harder against Timor-Leste before scoring three goals in the last 15 minutes to secure a 3-0 win against the Group A underdogs.

Shane Pattynama broke the deadlock before Thom Haye and Baker secured victory in Chonburi.

Up to 115th in the FIFA World Rankings, Herdman’s men have been in excellent form this year, winning five and losing just one of six matches completed.

A much-improved defence has kept clean sheets in four of Indonesia’s last five victories.

Vietnam Held by Singapore

Vietnam travel to Bogor after being held to a surprise goalless draw by Singapore at My Dinh National Stadium.

Kim Sang-sik’s side controlled much of Friday’s contest and created the better opportunities, but were unable to beat an inspired Izwan Mahbud in the Singapore goal.

The in-form Vietnamese had gone into that contest as 1.14 favourites to claim victory in Hanoi.

Vietnam began the defence of their ASEAN Championship crown with a comprehensive 7-0 victory against Timor-Leste in their tournament opener.

Nguyen Dinh Bac scored a hat-trick, while Hendrio added two goals in an impressive attacking performance from Sang-sik’s men.

The ASEAN Champions had recorded 17 consecutive victories before their shock draw against Singapore.

The Golden Star Warriors are unbeaten in their last 20 international fixtures, while they have leaked just three goals in their last nine matches.

Indonesia vs Vietnam Squads and Team News

Indonesia Squad

Goalkeepers: Nadeo Argawinata, Cahya Supriadi, Muhammad Riyandi
Defenders: Brian Fatari, Wahyu Prasetyo, Jordi Amat, Rizky Ridho, Sandy Walsh, Dony Tri Pamungkas, Shayne Pattynama, Justin Hubner, Tim Geypens
Midfielders: Marselino Ferdinan, Kadek Agung, Beckham Putra, Eliano Reijnders, Saddil Ramdani, Ivar Jenner, Thom Haye, Rayhan Hannan, Marc Klok
Forwards: Mitchell Baker, Egy Maulana Vikri, Ragnar Oratmangoen, Rizky Eka Pratama, Jens Raven

Head coach Herdman confirmed that he had a fully fit squad available before the victory against Timor-Leste.

Mitchell Baker should retain his place in attack after scoring four goals across his first two international appearances.

Haye and Pattynama are in contention to earn recalls after goalscoring substitute appearances last week.

Herdman praised his side for their perseverance against Timor-Leste last week.

“This is tournament football, and we have a group of players capable of winning matches,” said Herdman. “They showed today that they can finish strongly, having started strongly in the previous game.

“Scoring three goals during the final 25 minutes was a strong indication that this team can perform late in matches, dig deep and remain united. That is an important part of our journey and demonstrates the resilience we can carry forward into the tournament.”

Vietnam Squad

Goalkeepers: Le Giang Patrik, Tran Trung Kien, Dang Van Lam
Defenders: Nguyen Van Vi, Dinh Quang Kiet, Doan Van Hau, Nguyen Nhat Minh, Pham Xuan Manh, Khong Minh Gia Bao, Truong Tien Anh, Nguyen Thanh Chung, Bui Hoang Viet Anh, Phan Tuan Tai
Midfielders: Le Pham Thanh Long, Do Hoang Hen, Nguyen Hoang Duc, Nguyen Hai Long, Nguyen Quang Hai, Nguyen Ngoc My, Le Van Do
Forwards: Nguyen Dinh Bac, Nguyen Xuan Son, Nguyen Tai Loc, Pham Gia Hung, Nguyen Tran Viet Cuong

Vietnam boss Sang-sik could retain the majority of the side that started Friday’s goalless draw against Singapore.

Nguyen Tai Loc is set to return to the side after replacing Nguyen Dinh Bac in the first half.

Sang-sik insists the defending champions are embracing expectations as they target another deep run in the competition.

“Coming into the competition as defending champions does not create pressure for us,” said Kim, who led Vietnam to the title in 2024. “Instead, we want to use that status to give the team confidence.

“We will approach every match as though it is a final and try to achieve the best possible result in each game.”

Verdict

Indonesia have home advantage and plenty of attacking quality, but Vietnam are likely to provide their toughest test of the tournament.

Recent meetings between the nations have been tight, and a similar outcome is expected on Monday.

Under 2.5 goals is my preferred pick while I also expect the spoils to be shared.
