Cambodia is heavily favored as they host Timor-Leste in the ASEAN Championship, seeking their first Group A points after tough losses to Indonesia and Singapore. Cambodia holds a strong head-to-head record with six wins from nine meetings and consistently high goal averages in their recent matches. Timor-Leste, meanwhile, are still searching for their first point after several heavy defeats. Both sides may feature lineup changes, and a high-scoring game is expected, with over 2.5 goals likely and both teams potentially getting on the scoresheet.

Cambodia vs Timor-Leste Predictions

Cambodia will be determined to collect their first Group A points when they host Timor-Leste on Monday.

The Angkor Warriors should have too much quality for a Timor-Leste side that continues to struggle at this level.

I have my stake on Cambodia to win with at least three match goals, while the BTTS pick could offer plenty of value.

Cambodia Backed for Comfortable Win

  • Cambodia have seen over 2.5 goals in 13 of their last 15 matches
  • Cambodia won 5 of their last 7 matches against Timor-Leste
  • Cambodia have seen BTTS in their last 7 matches against Timor-Leste
  • Timor-Leste lost 13 of their last 16 matches
  • Timor-Leste have seen over 2.5 goals in 8 of their last 9 matches

Cambodia Dominate Head-to-Head

Cambodia and Timor-Leste have met nine times since 2006. Cambodia won six games, while Timor-Leste claimed one victory.

The Angkor Warriors secured a 2-1 victory when the nations last met during the 2024 ASEAN Championship.

Cambodia Seek First Victory

Cambodia return to Morodok Techo National Stadium after a heavy 5-1 defeat against Indonesia in Bogor last week.

The Angkor Warriors conceded three times inside the opening 24 minutes, with debutant Mitchell Baker completing his hat-trick after the interval.

An Indonesian own goal gave Cambodia brief hope early in the second half, but the hosts added two further goals to complete a commanding victory.

Gyotoku’s side also suffered a 2-1 defeat against Singapore in their opening Group A fixture.

The hosts remain pointless in Group A, but victory on Monday would keep alive their slim hopes of progressing from the group.

Usually a reliable choice for goal chasers, at least three goals were scored in all but two of their last 15 matches. An average of 3.4 goals per game was scored in those fixtures, while BTTS landed in 12 of those matches.

Timor-Leste Remain Pointless

Timor-Leste make the trip to Cambodia still searching for their first-ever point at the ASEAN Championship.

The Southeast Asian underdogs have lost all three Group A fixtures, including a 3-0 defeat against Indonesia last week.

Timor-Leste held firm for 73 minutes before late goals from Shayne Pattynama, Thom Haye and Mitchell Baker secured a comfortable Indonesian victory.

Jose Salazar’s side began the tournament with a comprehensive 7-0 defeat against defending champions Vietnam. The Crocodiles then produced a more competitive performance against Singapore, but still slipped to a 2-0 defeat at Jalan Besar Stadium.

The regional outsiders have lost all 19 previous matches at this competition since their debut in 2018. The Croc

Cambodia vs Timor-Leste Squads and Team News

Cambodia Squad

Goalkeepers: Hul Kimhuy, Reth Lyheng, Koy Salim
Defenders: Ouk Sovann, Taing Bunchhai, Sophal Dimong, Phat Sokha, Chea Sokmeng, Tum Makara, Nu Chenmakara, Vann Vit
Midfielders: Sos Suhana, Yudai Ogawa, Sin Sovannmakara, Bong Samuel, Alisher Mirzaev, Iago Bento
Forwards: Sieng Chanthea, Sa Ty, Mat Noron, Abdel Kader Coulibaly, Hav Soknet, Mon Rado, Yem Devit, Mon Vanda

Koji Gyotoku could make some changes to his selection following the disappointing 5-1 defeat against Indonesia last week.

Abdel Kader Coulibaly and Samuel Bong are expected to feature, while Sieng Chanthea is pushing for a starting place.

Gyotoku is hopeful his young team can deliver an improved performance against the qualifying play-off winners.

“We have a young squad, and some of the players are experiencing an international competition of this level for the first time,” Gyotoku said.

“Their condition and emotions can therefore vary from day to day. Sometimes they feel comfortable, while on other days they may find things more difficult.

"However, ahead of tomorrow’s match, the players appear to be in good condition.”

Timor-Leste Squad

Goalkeepers: Dylan Niski, Alexandre Lima, Egidio Oliveira
Defenders: Anizo Correia, Liam Farrugia, Ryan Jom, Jackson Fowler, Eric Silva, Juvito Moniz, Joao Varudo
Midfielders: Claudio Osorio, Tristan Arrarte, Natalino de Jesus, Palomito Ribeiro, Denilson Almeida
Forwards: Joao Pedro, Zenivio, Olagar Xavier, Luis Figo, Alexandro Bakhito, Joao Rangel, Zion Cruz, Vabio Canavaro, Oatnasio da Silva, Angenuco Viegas, Paulo Gusmao

Head coach Salazar is likely to retain a defensive formation after starting with a back five against Indonesia.

Zion Bessie Cruz should lead the line, with Claudio Osorio and Tristan Arrarte offering support from midfield.

Joao Pedro and captain Gali Freitas are among those pushing for recalls to the first XI.

Verdict

Cambodia have more experience at this level, and should emerge with a likely high-scoring win on Monday.

I have my stake on Cambodia to win with over 2.5 match goals, while I also fancy a small bet on BTTS.
