Club America vs Tijuana Predictions & Tips - Goals on the Cards in Liga MX Matchup

Club America host Tijuana in a Liga MX Apertura fixture, with both teams to score recommended as the main selection. Club America have seen BTTS in five of their last six league matches and average 2.53 goals per game, while Tijuana's games have also featured frequent goals and BTTS outcomes. Recent head-to-head meetings support this angle, and both sides have shown attacking strength but defensive vulnerabilities. The tip is further supported by Tijuana's improved form following a 4-1 win over Santos Laguna, though both teams have inconsistent defensive records.

Club America vs Tijuana Predictions

Liga MX leaders Club America welcome an improving Tijuana to the Estadio Banorte in Thursday's Apertura fixture.

Both teams have seen several high-scoring outcomes in recent weeks, and more of the same is expected this week.

BTTS is my first pick, while I also expect at least three goals.

High-Scoring Contest Likely

  • Club America scored an average of 2.53 goals per game in their last 13 matches (Liga MX)
  • Club America have seen BTTS & over 2.5 goals in 5 of their last 6 matches (Liga MX)
  • Club America have seen BTTS in 4 of their last 5 matches against Tijuana
  • Tijuana have seen BTTS & over 2.5 goals in 4 of their last 6 matches (Liga MX)
  • Tijuana scored an average of 1.61 goals per game in their last 13 matches (Liga MX)

America Dominate Recent H2H

Club America and Tijuana have met on 14 occasions since 2020. America won eight of those games, while Tijuana secured one victory. Five matches finished level.

America eased to a 3-1 home victory in their most recent encounter at Estadio Banorte.

America Suffer Shock Pachuca Setback

Club America return to Liga MX action after a surprise 2-1 home defeat against Pachuca on Sunday.

Goals from Alan Bautista and Oussama Idrissi secured the points for Benjamin Mora's men.

Henry Martin had drawn America level early in the second half, but despite enjoying more possession and creating several chances, the hosts were unable to find a leveller at Estadio Banorte.

America registered 21 shots to Pachuca's 16, with an xG total of 2.78 compared with the visitors' 0.58. A mix of poor finishing and defensive lapses proved costly for the Liga MX leaders.

Sunday's setback was particularly surprising after America had scored five goals in successive Liga MX victories, winning 5-3 at Leon before claiming a 5-2 success at Atlas.

Las Aguilas had not scored five goals in back-to-back league matches since the 1963-64 season, more than 60 years ago.

Despite last weekend's defeat, America remain top of the Apertura standings. The free-scoring hosts bagged an impressive 33 goals in just 13 league matches. However, they have leaked 18 in the same period.

Those numbers have made the Liga MX leaders a solid choice for goal chasers. BTTS landed in five of their last six league fixtures. An average of 3.33 goals per game were scored in those matches.

Tijuana End Winless Run in Style

Tijuana arrive in Mexico City in high spirits after a 4-1 home victory against Santos Laguna earlier this week.

Francisco Gonzalez opened the scoring before a brace from Ignacio Rivero put the hosts in control after Santos had pulled one back in the second half.

Sebastian Abreu's side were good value for their emphatic victory, creating four big chances and recording a considerably higher xG total (3.24-0.50).

Sunday evening's victory ended Tijuana's six-match winless streak in Liga MX and provided a much-needed boost ahead of their trip to Mexico City.

Inconsistent performances have plagued Los Xolos' campaign so far, with Sebastian Abreu's side winning five and losing five of their opening 13 Liga MX fixtures.

Despite their mixed results, goals have rarely been in short supply. Both teams scored in five of Tijuana's last six league matches, with four of those fixtures finishing with at least three goals.

Tijuana's 13 Liga MX matches this season have seen an average of 2.92 goals per game scored.

Club America vs Tijuana Team News

Club America: (4-2-3-1) Luis Malagon; Kevin Alvarez, Santiago Bueno, Santiago Ramos Mingo, Franco Rossano; Israel Reyes, Erick Sanchez; Oscar Perea, Carlos Alvarez, Brian Rodriguez; Henry Martin.

Head coach Almada is likely to ponder one or two changes to his first XI on Thursday morning.

Dagoberto Espinoza, Edwin Cerrillo and Miguel Borja are among those in contention to earn recalls for the home side.

Injured duo Victor Davila and Raul Zuniga remain the only fitness concerns ahead of this week's Liga MX fixture.

Tijuana: (5-4-1) Antonio Rodriguez; Ramiro Arciga, Rafael Fernandez, Jackson Porozo, Jesus Gomez; Jesus Vega, Francisco Gonzalez; Ignacio Rivero, Ivan Tona, Adonis Preciado; Mourad El Ghezouani.

Head coach Abreu is expected to stick with the same side that breezed past Santos Laguna.

Ignacio Rivero should retain his midfield role after a brace last weekend, with Francisco Gonzalez and Adonis Preciado providing support for Moroccan forward Mourad El Ghezouani.

Talented teenager Gilberto Mora missed the Santos fixture and is likely to miss out again this week. The 19-year-old tops the Tijuana scoring charts with five goals.

Verdict

Club America are favourites, but their recent defensive record suggests the hosts could struggle to keep a clean sheet on Wednesday.

With Tijuana buoyed by their weekend win against Santos Laguna, I expect the visitors to contribute to an entertaining contest.

I have stakes on both teams to score and a BTTS & over 2.5 goals double.
