Newcastle vs Aston Villa Preview

Newcastle gain most of their Premier League points at St James’ Park. Aston Villa have been tough to beat lately and an even contest is likely.

Key Stats - Hard to Beat Sides

  • Newcastle are unbeaten in their last 4 home games.
  • Newcastle are unbeaten in 17 of their last 19 home matches against Aston Villa.
  • Aston Villa are unbeaten in their last 5 matches.

H2H

Newcastle have a 77-61 advantage against Aston Villa, alongside 40 draws.

Newcastle Strong at Home

Newcastle are 11th in the Premier League table with eight points from six matches. The Toon have gained five of their points at home from two draws and one victory.

The Tyneside outfit drew 2-2 in their opening two home games in 2026/27 against Liverpool and Bournemouth. Newcastle extended their unbeaten home run to five in all competitions after a 2-1 triumph against Hull.

Matthias Jaissle’s team have been less convincing on the road this season and lost 4-1 at Coventry on Monday. The Magpies faced six shots on target, had 1.84 XG and Sven Botman scored a second-half consolation goal.

Aston Villa Are on the Up

Unai Emery’s Aston Villa failed to win in any of their opening three league matches this season. They lost their opening two before a 0-0 away draw against Hull.

The Villans have lost just once in their previous seven matches since that Hull stalemate. Villa were on a three-match winning streak, beating Coventry 3-1, Tottenham 3-2 and Sevilla 3-1.

Emery’s side couldn’t maintain winning form and were held to a 2-2 home draw with Brentford after the international break. Villa had 2.28 XG and 20 shots.

The Birmingham outfit extended their unbeaten run to five games in all competitions after thumping Fenerbahce 6-0. Nicolas Jackson and Ross Barkley scored twice each and Johan Manzambi and Tammy Abraham also struck.

Predicted Starting Lineups & Team News

Newcastle (4-2-3-1): Lukas Hornicek; Amar Dedic, Malick Thiaw, Sven Botman, Lewis Hall; Nico Gonzalez, Joelinton; Jacob Murphy, Yoane Wissa, Harvey Barnes; Matias Fernandez-Pardo

Defender Tino Livramento, winger Anthony Elanga and midfielder Jacob Ramsey are ruled out through injury.

Bazoumana Toure came off injured during the Coventry defeat. Matthias Jaissle was confident the midfielder would be fit to feature against Villa and said:

“He's progressing well in the last few days so, hopefully, he is able to join the group on Saturday."

Aston Villa (4-2-3-1): Zion Suzuki; Matty Cash, Victor Lindelof, Pau Torres, Aaron Wan-Bissaka; Boubacar Kamara, Joao Gomes; John McGinn, Johan Manzambi, Emiliano Buendia; Nicolas Jackson

Midfielder Ross Barkley is an injury doubt. Defenders Ian Maatsen and  Matteo Ruggeri, attacker George Hemmings and midfielder Amadou Onana are sidelined with injuries.

Verdict

Newcastle and Aston Villa are in similar form in the new Premier League season. Both sides have unbeaten runs to protect and a close-fought draw is anticipated at St James’ Park.
