Newcastle vs Bournemouth Preview

Newcastle showed their threat with an impressive victory at Tottenham and the Toon are improving under Matthias Jaissle. Bournemouth have been unconvincing early in the new campaign and a Magpies Premier League win has value.

Key Stats - Newcastle Building Form

  • Newcastle have won their last 2 games.
  • Bournemouth have lost 2 consecutive away matches.

H2H

Newcastle and Bournemouth have won eight matches each and drawn eight in 24 meetings.

Newcastle Positive in 2026/27

Matthias Jaissle's Newcastle are in solid recent form following a four-match unbeaten streak.

The Magpies started that run with a 1-1 friendly draw against Strasbourg at home. Newcastle also drew 2-2 at St James’ Park against Liverpool in the Premier League.

The Toon secured their first win of the campaign after beating West Brom 3-2 at home in the EFL Cup. The north-east side were in control with 2.62 XG and 16 shots.

Jaissle's outfit carried winning form into the Premier League and beat Tottenham 2-0 away. Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa scored twice on the counter-attack in the second period.

Bournemouth Taking Time to Adapt Under Rose

Bournemouth’s recent form under new manager Marco Rose is unconvincing. They have failed to win in any of their last four, losing twice.

Both defeats came on the road and the Cherries lost their final pre-season game 2-1 at Mainz. A 2-1 Premier League loss at Man City followed, where Bournemouth had just 0.63 XG.

Rose’s team gave up a 1-0 home lead against Everton on Saturday and drew 1-1. Alex Scott scored in the first half before the Cherries faced seven shots on target and conceded in injury time.

Predicted Starting Lineups & Team News

Newcastle (4-2-3-1): Lukas Hornicek; Amar Dedic, Malick Thiaw, Sven Botman, Lewis Hall; Nico Gonzalez, Lewis Miley; Anthony Elanga, Joe Willock, Harvey Barnes; Yoane Wissa

Defenders Dan Burn and Tino Livramento are sidelined with injuries. Midfielder Joelinton and striker William Osula are also injured.

Matias Fernandez-Pardo is available for selection after completing his transfer from Lille. The attacker shared his ambitions following the move and said:

“What I've seen is a team that's very ambitious, wants to attack, get forward, really chase teams and go after them, and that's really something I want to take part in as well.”

Bournemouth (4-2-3-1): Djorde Petrovic; Adam Smith, James Hill, Antonio Silva, Adrien Truffert; Lewis Cook, Alex Scott; Rayan, Justin Kluivert, Marcus Tavernier; Evanilson

Defender Julian Araujo and Veljko Milosavljevic are unavailable due to injury.

Midfielder Amine Adli and attacker Eli Junior Kroupi are also ruled out with injuries.

Verdict

Newcastle have shown their strength against some top Premier League opponents already this season. The Magpies have momentum and can defeat a Bournemouth side in transition under Marco Rose.
