Falkirk vs Celtic Predictions & Tips - Goals Expected in Premiership Clash

Falkirk meet Celtic at Falkirk Stadium in Sunday's Scottish Premiership fixture, with BTTS and over 2.5 goals recommended as the main selection. Both sides have been prolific in attack, with Falkirk scoring in their last nine matches and Celtic failing to keep a clean sheet in all but one of their last nine. Celtic have dominated the head-to-head, winning all eight meetings since 2020, but Falkirk are in good form with three consecutive league wins. The match is expected to be open, with both teams likely to score and a high goal tally anticipated.

Falkirk vs Celtic Predictions

Falkirk face Celtic at Falkirk Stadium in Sunday's Scottish Premiership fixture.

The hosts are in good form, and they should make life difficult for a Celtic side that rarely keeps clean sheets.

BTTS and over 2.5 goals looks the best selection, while I also have a second stake on a high-scoring away win.

Goals Expected in Falkirk Showdown

  • Falkirk have seen BTTS & over 2.5 goals in 3 of their last 4 home matches (Premiership)
  • Falkirk scored 1+ goals in their last 9 matches
  • Falkirk have seen BTTS & over 2.5 goals in 4 of their last 7 matches against Celtic
  • Celtic have seen BTTS & over 2.5 goals in their last 5 matches
  • Celtic won 16 of their last 18 matches (Premiership)
  • Celtic scored 2+ goals in 9 of their last 12 matches (domestic fixtures)

Celtic Dominate H2H Since 2020

Falkirk and Celtic have met on eight occasions since 2020. Celtic won all eight encounters, including a 2-1 home win in the most recent contest two months ago.

Falkirk Extend Winning Run at Aberdeen

Falkirk head into Sunday's Premiership clash in high spirits after a 1-0 victory against Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Wednesday evening.

Ben Krauhaus’s 73rd-minute strike secured a third successive league win for John McGlynn's side.

In a competitive contest, the Bairns were a little fortunate to emerge with all three points. Falkirk enjoyed more possession (55-45%) but registered fewer shots (13-15) and a lower xG total (1.06-1.67).

Aberdeen also created two more big chances, but McGlynn's men held firm to claim all three points.

An improved run of form has seen the home side win four and lose just one of their last seven Premiership fixtures.

The Bairns had taken only one point from their first four games of the season.

A solid choice for goal chasers, BTTS landed in seven of the hosts' last nine matches. An average of 2.55 goals per game were scored in those fixtures. Falkirk scored at least one goal in all nine contests.

Coming into this weekend's Premiership clash, the hosts sit sixth in the division, five points behind third-placed Hearts.

Celtic Held in Midweek Premiership Clash

Celtic return to Premiership action after a disappointing 2-2 home draw against Dundee United on Wednesday evening.

Camilo Duran gave the Hoops a first-half lead, but goals from Zachary Sapsford and Neil Farrugia turned the contest around before half-time.

Liam Scales eventually rescued a point for Martin O'Neill's side with a 65th-minute equaliser.

Celtic dominated possession (66-34%) and registered significantly more shots (29-11). The hosts also recorded a higher xG total (1.95-0.78) and created more big chances (2-1), but were left frustrated at Parkhead.

Defensive vulnerabilities have crept into Celtic's performances in recent weeks. The Hoops failed to keep a clean sheet in all but one of their last nine matches.

Despite those difficulties, O'Neill’s men have maintained consistency in their domestic results. Celtic remain top of the Premiership, four points clear of city rivals Rangers.

Falkirk vs Celtic Team News

Falkirk: (4-2-3-1) Scott Bain; Ryan Strain, Lewis Neilson, Liam Henderson, Scott Tanser; Ben Krauhaus, Brad Spencer; Ethan Ross, Finley Barbrook, Owen Eames; Jacob Murrell.

Bairns boss McGlynn has several injury issues this weekend. Keelan Adams and Joe Gardner are expected to miss out, while Aodhan Doherty, Ethan Laidlaw and Aidan Nesbitt remain doubtful.

Leon McCann is also unlikely to feature after being forced off against Aberdeen on Wednesday.

Midfielder Ben Krauhaus could return to the starting XI after scoring the winning goal at Pittodrie.

"Delighted to win. Coming to Aberdeen isn't easy at any time. It wasn't a classic; we've played better, and Stephen (Robinson) might say the same.

"Nothing in the game at all; we rode our luck at times in the second half. But our boys showed a great attitude; they worked exceptionally hard. Ben Krauhaus has taken the goal well.

"We've won three in a row, which is not easy in the Premiership. Delighted with that. It wasn't pleasing on the eye; we need to pass the ball better, but you take it over the course of a season.”

Celtic: (4-2-3-1) Sam Johnstone; Colby Donovan, Dane Murray, Liam Scales, Kieran Tierney; Callum McGregor, Sebastian Baur; Camilo Duran, Benjamin Nygren, Callum Osmand; Kasper Hogh.

Celtic boss O'Neill also has some injury concerns ahead of Sunday's trip to Falkirk.

Alistair Johnston and Joel van den Berg are expected to miss out, while Yang Hyun-Jun remains doubtful. Auston Trusty is also likely to remain sidelined.

In-form forward Camilo Duran is expected to retain his place in the visitors' attack. The Colombian has scored in his last four Premiership appearances.

Speaking to the BBC after the 2-2 draw against Dundee United, O'Neill felt his side should have scored more:

"I thought second half we were very, very strong, and yet maybe we could have conceded. We could have scored a couple of other goals.

"We fell asleep and conceded the goal, then another one. Half-time allowed us to regroup and I thought the second half was very strong.

"I think we just have to move on and it's a big match against Falkirk on Sunday."

Verdict

Celtic have dominated this fixture in recent years, but Falkirk are in good form, and should get on the scoresheet this weekend.

BTTS and over 2.5 goals is my first pick, while I also have a stake on Celtic to win/over 2.5 match goals.
