Belarus vs Scotland Predictions & Tips - Scots to Score Vital Road Victory

Scotland head into Monday's World Cup qualifier against Belarus as clear favorites, boosted by a solid defensive record and recent strong away performances. Belarus are reeling from a heavy loss to Greece and have a poor qualification history, losing the majority of their recent matches. Both teams may tweak their lineups, with Scotland expected to welcome back key midfielders. The consensus is that Scotland should secure an away win, likely keeping a clean sheet given their disciplined defense, making them a strong pick for bettors and fans alike.

Belarus vs Scotland Predictions

Belarus took a battering in Greece on Friday, and are likely to struggle against a Scottish side that has more quality and experience at this level.

An away win is a solid pick, while I also fancy the Scots to win to nil in Hungary.

Stats

  • Belarus lost 15 of their last 19 matches (World Cup qualifiers)
  • Scotland won 3 of their last 6 away matches (World Cup qualifiers)
  • Scotland kept a clean sheet in 7 of their last 8 victories

Head to Head

Belarus and Scotland have met on just two occasions in the past 20 years. Belarus claimed a shock 1-0 win at Hampden after a 0-0 draw in a pair of World Cup qualifiers in 2005.

Belarus Form

Belarus make the trip to Hungary after a disastrous 5-1 defeat against Greece last week. Alos Ferrer Carlos's men were blown away with four goals conceded in the first half of Friday's World Cup qualifier in Piraeus.

A mixed run of results has seen the designated home side win four, lose three and draw four of 11 games played since September 2024.

The White Wings have struggled to make any kind of impact in recent World Cup qualifying campaigns. Belarus finished bottom of their section in each of their last three attempts to reach the finals, losing 21 of 27 qualifiers since 2012.

Belarus Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers: Pavel Pavlyuchenko, Sergey Ignatovich, Fyodor Lapoukhov
Defenders: Alyaksandr Martynovich, Sergey Politevich, Kiryl Pyachenin, Sergey Karpovich, Pavel Zabelin, Vadim Pigas, Yegor Parkhomenko, Dmitry Prishchepa, Pavel Apetenok
Midfielders: Max Ebong, Yevgeny Yablonsky, Nikita Korzun, Valery Gromyko, Valery Bocherov, Pavel Sedko, Ruslan Lisakovich, Maksim Kireev, Oleg Nikiforenko
Forwards: Vitaly Lisakovich, Trofim Melnichenko, Artyom Shumansky

Belarus boss Carlos is likely to shuffle his pack in search of a response to Friday's thrashing in Greece. German Barkovskiy is tipped to come into the side after a goal-scoring substitute appearance in Piraeus.

Scotland Form

Scotland arrive in Hungary with spirits raised after battling their way to a well-deserved 0-0 draw against Denmark last Friday. In a match of a few clear-cut opportunities, Steve Clarke's battling side will have been delighted to emerge with a precious point in Copenhagen.

The Scots have endured a mixed bag of results in the past year, but often save their best performances for away fixtures. Scotland claimed away victories in both Poland and Greece in the past year, while they eased to a 4-0 win against Liechtenstein earlier this summer.

Despite a strong run of form in World Cup qualifiers, the Scots have not reached the finals since 1998. Clarke's men missed out on qualification for the 2022 event despite picking up 23 points (and losing just one) of ten qualifying fixtures.

Scotland Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers: Angus Gunn, Zander Clark, Liam Kelly
Defenders: Andy Robertson, Grant Hanley, Kieran Tierney, Scott McKenna, Jack Hendry, Anthony Ralston, John Souttar, Aaron Hickey, Max Johnston, Dominic Hyam
Midfielders: John McGinn, Scott McTominay, Ryan Christie, Kenny McLean, Billy Gilmour, Lewis Ferguson, Ben Gannon Doak, Lennon Miller
Forwards: Lyndon Dykes, Che Adams, George Hirst, Kieron Bowie

Head coach Clarke could make one or two changes to his first XI on Monday. Ben Gannon Doak and Billy Gilmour are likely contenders to earn recalls to the Scottish selection.

Brentford fullback Aaron Hickey is likely to keep his place after making his first competitive start in nearly two years against the Danes.

Verdict

An improved Scottish side should prove too strong in a closed-door World Cup qualifier on Monday evening. An away win is my top tip, with the Scots also backed to keep a clean sheet.
