Gangwon FC vs Kuching City Predictions & Tips - Kuching to Test Hosts in AFC Two Contest

Gangwon FC face Kuching City in an AFC Champions League Two Group H fixture. The main recommendation is Kuching City +1.5 Asian handicap, as Gangwon have failed to win by more than one goal in eight of their last nine matches, and Kuching City have lost by more than one goal just once in their last fourteen games. Both teams to score is also suggested, with both sides frequently involved in BTTS outcomes. Team news indicates possible minor changes for both line-ups, but no confirmed absences.

Gangwon FC vs Kuching City Predictions

Gangwon FC take on Malaysian visitors Kuching City in an AFC Champions League Two Group H fixture.

The Korean hosts have struggled to find much winning form in recent months, while Kuching have proved competitive in Group H.

I have my stake on Kuching City in the Asian handicap market while I also fancy BTTS.

Gangwon Out-of-Form

  • Gangwon failed to win by more than 1 goal in 8 of their last 9 matches (All competitions)
  • Gangwon failed to score more than 1 goal in 7 of their last 9 matches (All competitions)
  • Gangwon failed to win 12 of their last 14 matches
  • Gangwon have seen BTTS in their last 3 matches
  • Kuching City lost by no more than 1 goal in 13 of their last 14 matches
  • Kuching City have seen BTTS in 8 of their last 9 matches

First Meeting Between Gangwon and Kuching

Gangwon FC and Kuching City will meet for the first time on Thursday.

Gangwon Held at Seoul

Gangwon return to Gangneung Stadium after a 1-1 draw against FC Seoul in Saturday's K League 1 fixture.

Moon Seon-min put FC Seoul ahead in the 58th minute, but Kang Joon-hyuk equalised seven minutes later to earn Gangwon a share of the spoils.

The Bears were unfortunate not to claim all three points. Gangwon enjoyed more possession (58-42%), registered more shots (14-11) and recorded a significantly higher xG total (2.24-1.63), but failed to make their superiority count.

That result came on the back of another 1-1 draw against Incheon United one week earlier.

The Korean outfit have now failed to win eight of their last nine matches across all competitions.

A lack of quality in front of goal has been the biggest issue for Kyung-ho Chung’s side. Gangwon scored just 13 goals in 14 matches completed since August.

Yet to find form in the AFC Two, Gangwon kicked off their continental campaign with a goalless draw at Kitchee before a 2-1 reversal at home to Phnom Penh Crown two weeks ago.

Kuching City Remain Competitive

Kuching City make the trip to South Korea after a 2-1 Malaysian FA Cup defeat against Selangor on Friday.

Ramadhan Saifullah put the visitors ahead inside ten minutes, but Eduardo Sosa scored twice to turn the tie in Selangor's favour.

Kuching remained competitive throughout the contest, despite seeing less of the ball (46-54%) and registering fewer shots (8-14). The visitors also recorded a marginally lower xG total (0.54-0.98).

Aidil Sharin’s side have now slipped to one-goal defeats in both of their last two fixtures. City also fell to a 3-2 league defeat at Brunei DPMM earlier this month.

Before those setbacks, Kuching had lost just one of 11 previous fixtures.

The Cats kicked off their continental campaign with a narrow 2-1 defeat at Phnom Penh Crown before holding Hong Kong side Kitchee to a 1-1 draw in their second AFC Two, Group H fixture.

Gangwon FC vs Kuching City Team News

Gangwon FC: (4-4-2) Park Cheong-hyo; Hwang Mun-ki, Shin Min-ha, Lee Gi-hyuk, Kang Joon-hyuk; Mo Jae-hyeon, Lee You-hyeon, Seo Min-woo, Kim Dae-won; Kim Gun-hee, Goh Young-jun.

Head coach Ho Chung is unlikely to make too many changes to the side that held Seoul last weekend.

Kim Gun-hee is tipped to earn a recall after a 45-minute substitute appearance last weekend.

Kuching City: (4-3-3) Haziq Nadzli; Yuki Tanigawa, James Okwuosa, Gabriel Peres, Ariff Farhan; Petrus Shitembi, Ryan Lambert, Joao Pedro; Safawi Rasid, Jerome Mpacko Etame, Ramadhan Saifullah.

Kuching boss Sharin could make some alterations to his first XI on Thursday.

Declan Lambert, Nur Shamie Iszuan and Dylan Wenzel-Halls are among those in contention to earn recalls after appearing as second-half substitutes against Selangor.

Verdict

Gangwon have found wins hard to come by in recent months, while Kuching have been competitive in their first two fixtures in Group H.

I have my stakes on Kuching to cover a -1 Asian handicap, while I also expect both teams to get on the scoresheet.
