Celtic welcome Dundee United to Celtic Park in the Scottish Premiership, with the main tip being Celtic to win and over 2.5 goals. Celtic have won nine of their opening ten league matches and have seen over 2.5 goals in 13 of their last 16 games. Dundee United arrive unbeaten in four but have lost five of their last seven meetings with Celtic, including a 4-0 defeat in August. While United have shown attacking promise, Celtic's home dominance and scoring consistency make the combined selection the preferred pick.

Celtic vs Dundee United Predictions

Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic welcome in-form Dundee United to Celtic Park on Wednesday evening.

Martin O'Neill's side have won nine of their opening ten league games, but the visitors arrive unbeaten in four and fresh from a five-goal thriller against Aberdeen.

I have stakes on Celtic to win & over 2.5 goals and Celtic to score over 1.5 goals.

Goals Expected in Glasgow

  • Celtic won 9 of their opening 10 matches (Scottish Premiership)
  • Celtic have seen over 2.5 goals in 13 of their last 16 matches
  • Dundee United lost 5 of their last 7 matches against Celtic
  • Dundee United have seen over 2.5 goals in 5 of their last 6 matches against Celtic
  • Dundee United have seen over 2.5 goals in 4 of their last 5 away matches

Celtic Dominant at Home in Recent Meetings

Celtic and Dundee United have met on 19 occasions since 2020. Celtic won 13 of those games, while United picked up two victories. Four matches finished level.

The Glasgow giants eased to a 4-0 victory in their most recent encounter in August.

Celtic Recover from Early Scare at Easter Road

Celtic maintained their advantage at the top of the Premiership with a hard-fought 2-1 victory at Hibernian on Sunday.

The Hoops suffered an early setback when Owen Elding opened the scoring after just three minutes, but Jason Kerr's own goal quickly restored parity.

Colombian forward Camilo Duran then struck before the break to secure a vital away victory for the Scottish champions.

O'Neill's men were far from their best at Easter Road. Despite enjoying 61% possession and registering more shots (15-13), Celtic recorded a marginally lower xG total (1.15-1.19).

Sunday's success came on the back of another disappointing European result. Celtic slipped to a 2-1 home reversal against Celta last Thursday - their fourth successive continental defeat.

Domestically, the Glasgow giants have remained solid despite a pair of Old Firm defeats last month. The Hoops picked up 27 points from ten Premiership fixtures - an average of 3.1 goals per game was scored in those fixtures.

Particularly dominant in Glasgow, Celtic won 19 of their last 24 Premiership fixtures at Parkhead, including a 4-0 win against Dundee United earlier this year.

Dundee United Continue Impressive Run

Dundee United make the trip to Parkhead after a dramatic 3-2 victory against Aberdeen at Tannadice on Saturday.

Goals from Zidane Iqbal, Dylan Tait and Zac Sapsford secured all three points for Jim Goodwin's side.

Saturday's final scoreline reflected a competitive contest. Aberdeen recorded more shots (20-14) and a marginally higher xG total (1.58-1.54), but United proved more clinical in front of goal.

Jim Goodwin's side have now taken ten points from their last four Premiership matches. Before beating Aberdeen, they drew 1-1 at St Johnstone while also picking up successive clean-sheet victories against Hibernian (1-0) and St Mirren (3-0).

Unbeaten in their last five matches, the Terrors are up to fourth in the division, four points behind third-placed Hearts.

On the road, United have struggled to find consistency this year. The Arabs lost two of their last five away fixtures, while they won just five of 24 matches on their Premiership travels since August 2025.

Celtic vs Dundee United Team News

Celtic: (4-2-3-1) Sam Johnstone; Colby Donovan, Dane Murray, Liam Scales, Kieran Tierney; Callum McGregor, Mika Baur; Camilo Duran, Benjamin Nygren, Callum Osmand, Kasper Hogh.

Head coach O'Neill is likely to retain much of the same XI that secured victory at Hibernian last weekend.

Camilo Duran should keep his place after scoring his seventh goal of the season at Easter Road.

Alistair Johnston's comeback was cut short on Sunday and the Canadian looks set for another extended spell on the sidelines.

Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers are available after overcoming long-term injury issues.

Speaking to the BBC on Sunday, O'Neill was thrilled to pick up another Premiership win. :

"Absolutely delighted with it.

"Considering the circumstances, considering the conditions today and considering what has happened on Thursday [losing to Celta Vigo], I thought this was our best win of the season, and we didn't play particularly well in the game. It was even better than last Sunday (beating Hearts 7-1).

"Thankfully, we did score so quickly afterwards [the Hibs goal], and we got the winning goal. It's a difficult afternoon even in good conditions for me. I always find Easter Road really difficult."

Dundee United: (4-3-3) Jack Walton; Joshua Rawlins, Bert Esselink, Michael Forbes, Kevin Ciubotaru; Zidane Iqbal, Dylan Tait; Lyall Cameron, Jesse Randall, Daniel Bennie, Zachary Sapsford.

Jim Goodwin could stick with the same side that beat Aberdeen. Zidane Iqbal and captain Dylan Tait should retain their places in midfield, while Zac Sapsford is expected to continue in attack after scoring the winner on Saturday.

Jim Goodwin was full of praise for his players following Saturday's dramatic victory against Aberdeen:

"It was a terrific game; both sets of players deserve a huge amount of credit. No doubt Stephen Robinson and his players will be disappointed not to have taken anything on the day.

"They were very good at times, and certainly had their moments in the game. I'm just delighted in the manner we were able to win the game.

"The disappointment of the third goal being chalked off with Sapsford, which was a brilliant passage of play from us... I think it's harsh, to be honest. It's subjective.”

Verdict

Celtic's impressive home record and attacking quality should make the difference in Wednesday's Premiership contest.

The visitors have shown enough going forward to threaten the champions, but Celtic should have too much firepower.

Celtic to win & over 2.5 goals is my preferred pick.
