Motherwell are set to host Hearts in a high-stakes Scottish Premiership match at Fir Park. Both teams have shown strong attacking form, with BTTS (Both Teams To Score) featuring regularly in recent fixtures. Despite Motherwell’s recent dip, their home record remains impressive, while Hearts come off a major win against Rangers and lead the league. Predicted lineups show few injury worries for either side, reinforcing the BTTS prediction as the top tip for the weekend.

Motherwell vs Hearts Predictions

Hearts can expect a stiff test against a Motherwell side that has shown so much quality this season. BTTS is my preferred pick in a game that could go either way.

Goals Expected at Fir Park

  • Motherwell have seen BTTS in 5 of their last 7 matches
  • Motherwell scored an average of 1.7 goals per game in their last 17 home matches (Premiership)
  • Hearts have seen BTTS in their last 4 matches
  • Hearts scored an average of 1.64 goals per game in their last 17 away matches (Premiership)

Hearts Hold Edge in Motherwell H2H

Motherwell and Hearts have met on 18 occasions since 2020. Hearts won nine of those games while Motherwell secured five victories.

The Jambos failed to win four of their last five away games against Motherwell since 2022.

Motherwell Slip-Up at Bairns

Motherwell return to Fir Park after a frustrating 1-0 defeat at Falkirk last weekend. Henry Cartwright’s second-half goal secured a well-deserved win for the Bairns.

Jens Askou's side were second best in the second period, with Falkirk wracking up an xG of 2.42 as they claimed the points at Falkirk Stadium.

The Steelmen have seen the rails come off in what has been a brilliant Premiership campaign. Motherwell lost five of their last seven league fixtures. They had lost just three of their first 28 fixtures this season.

A strong home record has been the foundation for ‘Well’s strong season. Askou’s men won ten and lost only two of 17 Premiership games at Fir Park since August.

Despite their recent dip in performances, Motherwell remain fourth in the division, six points clear of fifth-placed Hibernian.

Hearts Claim Massive Rangers Win

Hearts moved a huge step closer to a first Scottish Premiership title in over 60 years with a stunning 2-1 win over Rangers last weekend. Second-half goals from Stephen Kingsley (54') and Lawrence Shankland (71') secured a sensational comeback victory for the Jambos.

Derek McInnes’s side struggled to get going in the first half, but the introduction of Blair Spittal at the break proved crucial. The Jambos began to take control of midfield, with Spittal adding energy and composure, allowing Hearts to dictate the tempo and turn the game in their favour.

The Jambos have maintained their form under serious pressure in a fascinating Scottish title race. Hearts won six and lost just one of their last eight Premiership fixtures.

Clean sheets have been increasingly rare, though. Hearts conceded at least one goal in five of their last six games, while each of their four previous fixtures finished with BTTS.

With only three games to play, Hearts now sit seven points clear of third-placed Rangers, and three clear of nearest rivals Celtic.

Predicted Lineups and Team News

Motherwell (4-2-3-1) Calum Ward; Stephen O'Donnell, Paul McGinn, Stephen Welsh, Emmanuel Longelo; Lukas Fadinger, Elliot Watt; Elijah Just, Callum Slattery, Ibrahim Said; Tawanda Maswanhise

Head coach Askou has a strong squad available this weekend. Zach Robinson is the only confirmed absentee for the home side.

Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou revealed his frustration in the aftermath of last weekend’s defeat against Falkirk.

"Disappointed about the outcome, disappointed about some of the moments in the performance.

"I think it was an extremely open game in the first half, maybe more open than either team would have wanted.

Hearts (4-3-3) Alexander Schwolow; Michael Steinwender, Craig Halkett, Stuart Findlay, Stephen Kingsley; Macaulay Leonard, Beni Baningime, Alexandros Kyziridis; Claudio Braga, Lawrence Shankland, Blair Spittal

Head coach McInnes is likely to keep faith with the bulk of the same selection that claimed victory against Rangers last weekend. Blair Spittal should earn a recall after his impressive performance last weekend.

Craig Gordon, Oisin McEntee, Tomas Magnusson, Calem Nieuwenhof, Ageu, Finlay Pollock, Cameron Devlin and Harry Milne all miss out for the league leaders.

McInnes spoke on Thursday to answer questions about whether the pressure could affect the Jambos in the final weeks of the season.

“I think anybody who questions the mentality now hasn’t been watching us,” the head coach said.

“It goes without saying, regardless of how this season plays out, you don’t get to 76 points with three games to go at Hearts without a strong mentality. There are pressures at this club that you need to deal with.”

Verdict

Recent results suggest a strong likelihood of both teams scoring in Saturday’s vital Premiership fixture. BTTS is my top tip this weekend.
