The Netherlands are poised to assert their dominance in the upcoming World Cup qualifying match against Poland. Historically, the Dutch team has an impressive track record against Poland, having won the last five home games against them. In their most recent encounter in September, Poland struggled with possession, which gives the Dutch side a strategic advantage. The Netherlands' consistent performance in this qualifying group marks them as the favorites for victory on Friday. Their robust form and historical successes suggest a promising outcome.

Poland vs Netherlands Preview

Poland were lucky to grab a point in their first match against the Netherlands 1-1, barely touching the ball and having 0.30 xG. Oranje won all other contests in the qualifiers, so I will back them to earn another victory on Friday.

These two sides locked horns in September, Poland snatching a point 1-1 in Rotterdam.

Poland Form

Poland are almost certain to secure second place in Group G and advance to World Cup qualifying playoffs, winning four out of six games so far.

They were lucky to snatch a point in their first match against Netherlands 1-1 in early September, which was also Jan Urban’s debut as the new head coach, ending that match with 0.30-1.24 xG, just 26% possession and 6-14 shots.

The Poles did much better in terms of control in next two games, beating Finland 3-1 at home and most recently Lithuania 2-0 on the road, Robert Lewandowski scoring on both occasions.

Netherlands Form

Netherlands are just one point away from earning a spot at the World Cup 2026, dominating Group G so far with five victories, one draw and a 22-3 goal difference.

The only slip up was against Poland at home 1-1 where they had full control and missed plenty of goal chances, Denzel Dumfries being their top scorer.

Ronald Koeman’s side responded with three straight victories after that, beating Lithuania 3-2, Malta 4-0 and Finland 4-0, allowing just 1.34 xG total in these three encounters.

Memphis Depay has been their standout performer in the qualifiers, registering seven goals and four assists.

Squads & Team News

Poland’s goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski, defender Jan Bednarek, forwards Przemyslaw Frankowski and Krzystof Piatek were not in contention due to injuries, while Jakub Piotrowski was not called up. Robert Lewandowski is expected to make his 162nd appearance for the national team, scoring 87 goals so far.

Goalkeepers: Bartlomiej Dragowski, Kamil Grabara, Mateusz Kochalski, Kacper Tobiasz

As for the visitors, Strasbourg's striker Emanuel Emegha could make his debut for the national team. Memphis Depay has the most appearances (106) on this roster and is also the top scorer with 54 goals. Teun Koopmeiners, Sam Steijn, Jeremie Frimpong and Stefan de Vrij were not called up.

Goalkeepers: Bart Verbruggen, Mark Flekken, Robin Roefs
Defenders: Virgil van Dijk, Denzel Dumfries, Nathan Ake, Matthijs de Ligt, Jurrien Timber, Lutsharel Geertruida, Micky van de Ven, Jan Paul van Hecke, Quilindschy Hartman

Predicted Starting Lineups

Poland (4-5-1):
Łukasz Skorupski, Matty Cash, Tomasz Kędziora, Jan Bednarek, Jakub Kiwior, Sebastian Szymański, Piotr Zieliński, Michał Skóraś, Jakub Piotrowski, Jakub Kamiński, Robert Lewandowski

Bart Verbruggen, Denzel Dumfries, Jurriën Timber, Virgil van Dijk, Micky van de Ven, Ryan Gravenberch, Frenkie de Jong, Donyell Malen, Cody Gakpo, Tijjani Reijnders, Memphis Depay

Verdict

Netherlands are the most dominant side in this WC qualifying group, and I like their chances of winning on Friday. Poland were beaten in their last five home games by Oranje and they struggled to keep possession in their most recent h2h clash in September.
