Despite a few recent slip-ups, PSG have been one of the most consistent European sides this season in my eyes. Flamengo deserve respect for their recent achievements, but I don’t think they have the quality to contain the European champions.

This will be the first head-to-head meeting between PSG and Flamengo. 

European Champions Aim for Another Trophy 


PSG have been in solid form recently, picking up five wins from their last seven matches across competitions, although they have missed a high number of chances in games they failed to win. 

A recent example came in the Champions League, where Luis Enrique’s side were held to a goalless draw away to Athletic Bilbao despite registering 2.22 xG, dominating possession with 72%, and firing 18 shots without finding the net. 

The Saints were victorious in their last two Ligue 1 fixtures, thrashing Rennes 5-0 at home earlier this month before edging past Metz 3-2 last weekend. Goncalo Ramos and Kvicha Kvaratshkelia scored twice each across those two matches. 

Very Successful Season for Flamengo 


Unlike PSG, Flamengo were required to navigate the earlier rounds of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup, eliminating Cruz Azul 2-1 in the quarterfinals before dispatching Pyramids 2-0 in the semifinals last week. Giorgian de Arrascaeta was the standout performer, contributing two goals and two assists. 

A 3-3 draw away at Mirassol earlier this month proved enough to end a five-year drought and secure their ninth Serie A title. 

Filipe Luis’ side earned their place in the Intercontinental Cup by lifting the Copa Libertadores after a 1-0 victory over Palmeiras in the final, with Danilo scoring the decisive goal in the 67th minute.

Luis Enrique had concerns regarding Ousmane Dembele’s fitness, but he is expected to start. Achraf Hakimi remains sidelined with an ankle injury, while Ibrahim Mbaye is at AFCON with Senegal national team. 

Flamengo (4-3-3) Agustin Rossi, Guillermo Varela, Danilo, Leo Pereira, Alex Sandro, Erick Pulgar, Jorginho, Giorgian De Arrascaeta, Jorge Carrascal, Everton, Bruno Henrique 

The Brazilian side can’t count on Allan (heel injury) while Douglas Telles is doubtful. 

Verdict

Flamengo have been consistent in front of goal and I like their chances of finding the net here, but PSG are the superior side with more quality and experience. I am backing the European champions to win in regular time.
