Scotland finally ended their World Cup exile last night with a thrilling 4-2 victory over Denmark, but can Steve Clarke’s men make further history when they head to North America next summer?

The Scots entered last night’s match at Hampden Park knowing a victory would secure a place in next year’s tournament, while any other result would have left them needing to successfully negotiate a playoff to be a part of next year’s festivities.

Having not appeared in World Cup since 1998 and having not play particularly well during qualifying, the pressure was on Clarke’s side, but they showed nerve and grit, and some world class finishing, to battle past the Danes.

Hampden erupted when Scott McTominay opened the scoring early thanks to a sensational overhead kick that would have been worthy of winning any game, but this was Scotland and it was not going to be that simple.

Denmark equalised in the second half with a controversial penalty, and Lawrence Shankland’s instinctive finish was quickly cancelled out as the Danes again pulled level to edge themselves closer to the finals.

Scotland needed a goal and it came from an unlikely source three minutes into added time, as Kieran Tierney popped up at the edge of the box and uncorked a stunning curling finish that gave Kasper Schmeichel no chance and took the roof off Hampden for the second time.

Then, with the Tartan Army practically begging for the final whistle, substitute Kenny McLean endured there would be no last-gasp heart-break as he lobbed Schmeichel from the halfway line to spark scenes of wild celebration across the country.

Nobody heard the final whistle blow as the Scots celebrated a famous achievement, but now the question is just how far can this team go in next summer’s World Cup?

Scotland underwhelmed at the last European Championship, resulting in plenty of backlash towards manager Clarke, and that first-round exit means the ‘Tartan Army’ have still not seen their team make it past the group stage of a major international tournament.

Odds on that happening will be released at a later date, with the final groups yet to be confirmed, but the bookmakers have confirmed Scotland’s odds of winning it all next year.

Steve Clarke’s side are 350/1 to win the World Cup with BOYLE Sports, and if you sign up now and bet £10 on Scotland to win the tournament, you will receive £20 in free bets from the bookmaker.

Scotland To Qualify For World Cup Knockout Odds

Now that Scotland have made history by ending their long World Cup drought, they will get another opportunity to end another long-running story surrounding the Scottish national team.

No Scotland team has ever made it past the group stage at a major tournament, so can the 2026 group do what their predecessors could not?

Betting odds for this market are expected to be released closer to the tournament, once the team find out who they are playing in next year's draw.

Who Will Make The Scotland World Cup Squad

It is no secret that Steve Clarke is loyal to his players, so those that guided the team to the World Cup are expected to head to North America next year.

There could be some surprises though, and closer to the time you will be able to bet on who makes Clarke's final cut.
