Fiorentina lost their opening three matches in Serie A, scoring one goal with nine conceded. Fabio Grosso was sacked, Paolo Vanoli rejoining the club after departing in June.

Vanoli saw his side fall behind at Venezia before Franco Mastantuono took control, the Argentine hitting a hat-trick in a 4-2 victory.

I Viola kept the momentum going in the Coppa Italia, beating Pisa 3-0 in Florence. Pote came off the bench to score the final goal and inch close towards a starting spot.

Napoli Below Their Best


Napoli won 2-0 at Genoa in their opening game this season but lost their next three matches. They ran into some top teams, beaten by Como and Inter Milan.

Massimiliano Allegri’s side were completely outplayed by Arsenal in the Champions League. Playing at home was not a factor, going down 1-0 after ending with 42% possession, 5-26 shots and 0.22-4.05 xG.

The Campania club bounced back to beat Bologna 1-0. It was a comfortable victory after registering 1.19-0.29 xG, Stanislav Lobotka the unlikely goalscorer.

Verdict
