Barcelona have started the new season with three impressive wins, displaying top form. Valencia, traditionally solid at home against Barca, have a strong record of scoring in these encounters but are currently in poor form overall. The key recommendation is to back Barcelona for an away win with both teams to score (BTTS), as Barca appear unstoppable and Valencia are still likely to find the net at home.

Barcelona accumulated more than 11.50 xG and scored 12 goals in the opening three rounds. I don't see Valencia getting anything here except for a consolation goal.

Key Stats

  • Valencia have lost their last 2 matches.
  • Valencia have seen BTTS in their last 3 home matches against Barcelona (La Liga).
  • Barcelona have won their last 5 matches (including pre-season).

101-Year-Old Rivalry

This is going to be 233rd head to head match between these two sides and Barcelona have a 115-60 advantage.

Valencia Sitting Just Above Relegation Zone

Valencia are having a rough start to the new campaign, head manager Carlos Corberan being under huge pressure after grabbing just one point in three games.

The Bats played their first two games in front of the home crowd at Mestalla, a goalless draw against Celta Vigo where both sides failed to create chances, followed by a 1-0 loss to Real Betis.

They were more agile last weekend in La Coruna against Deportivo, posting 1.40 expected goals but lost the encounter 3-1, conceding two goals through counter-attacks.

Barca off to a Strong Start

Barcelona's results and performances so far in the new La Liga campaign have been impeccable, claiming three straight victories with a goal difference of 12-2.

Blaugrana crushed Elche 5-0 in the opening round where Fermin Lopez and Raphinha netted two goals each, Karim Adeyemi also on target, followed by a 2-0 win against Athletic Bilbao.

Last weekend, Hansi Flick's side hosted Rayo Vallecano, had a couple of defensive errors but still claimed a convincing 5-2 win. Raphinha added another brace to his name, Lamine Yamal also netting twice.

Team News & Predicted Lineups

Valencia (3-5-2) Stole Dimitrievski; Mouctar Diakhaby, Cesar Tarrega, Alex Martinez; Pablo Maffeo, Javi Guerra, Filip Ugrinic, Pepelu, Jose Gaya; Ryunosuke Sato, Arnaut Danjuma

The hosts have to navigate an extensive injury list with Justin de Haas, Sergi Canos, Jose Copete, Diego Lopez, Guido Rodriguez, and Umar Sadiq all ruled out, while Dimitri Foulquier and Luis Rioja face late fitness tests.

Barcelona (4-2-3-1) Joan Garcia; Eric Garcia, Pau Cubarsi, Gerard Martin, Xavi Espart; Pedri, Marc Bernal; Lamine Yamal, Fermin Lopez, Anthony Gordon; Raphinha

Frenkie de Jong, Roony Bardghji, and Jesse Bisiwu remain sidelined due to injuries.

Verdict

Barcelona look unstoppable in the new season, claiming three convincing victories so far against good opposition. Valencia have a solid record when it comes to scoring at home against Barca, but their recent results are quite poor. An away win & BTTS is my top pick here.
