Copenhagen vs Bayer Leverkusen Prediction & Tips – Schick to Fire Leverkusen to Victory in the UCL

Bayer Leverkusen, after a strong debut win under new manager Kasper Hjulmand, are expected to build on recent success against a struggling Copenhagen side that has failed to win their last two home games. Leverkusen have historically dominated this fixture, winning all three previous encounters. Key player Patrick Schick is in top form, scoring in recent matches and is a good bet to score again. Major absences for both teams due to injury could influence the match. An away win for Leverkusen and a goal from Schick are top picks.

Copenhagen vs Bayer Leverkusen Preview

Leverkusen finally ended their winless run with a 3-1 victory over Frankfurt on Friday in Kasper Hjulmand’s first game in charge. I expect them to build on that performance and beat a Copenhagen side struggling in front of their home crowd.

Stats

  • Copenhagen are winless in their last 2 home matches (Superliga).
  • Leverkusen have won their last 3 matches against Copenhagen.
  • Leverkusen have won 2 of their last 4 matches.
  • Leverkusen’s Patrick Schick has scored 4 goals in his last 4 matches.

HTH

This is going to be the fourth head to head match between Copenhagen and Leverkusen.

The German side won all three games, the most recent one 1-0 in January 2023.

Copenhagen Form

Copenhagen had to go through three round of qualifiers to reach the UCL group stages. After eliminating Drita 3-0 on aggregate, they outplayed Malmo 5-0 on aggregate.

The Lions held Basel to a 1-1 draw in the qualifying playoffs in Switzerland, then finished the job at home with a 2-0 win, Andreas Cornelius and Youssoufa Moukoko finding the net in second half.

As for their domestic campaign, Jacob Neestrup’s side grabbed 16 points in eight Superliga games, sitting in 2nd position. Last weekend, they were beaten at Brondby 2-1.

Bayer Leverkusen Form

Bayer Leverkusen had a poor start to the new Bundesliga season, claiming just two points from opening two games and sacked Erik ten Hag after just three games in charge.

After beating a lower-division side Grossapach 4-0 in the German Cup in mid-August, Bayer were beaten by Hoffenheim 2-1 in front of the home crowd.

Just before the international break, they had a 3-1 lead and one-man advantage at Werder Bremen, but conceded two late goals and had to settle for a disappointing 3-3 draw.

In their premiere match under new manager Kasper Hjulmand, Leverkusen defeated Frankfurt 3-1 on Friday, Alex Grimaldo scoring a brace, Patrick Schick also on target.

Team News

Hosts will be without injured Jonathan Moalem, Oliver Hojer and Oscar Buur, while Magnus Mattsson is most likely out until December with a cruciate ligament injury.

Martin Terrier (Achilles tendon problem), Jeanuel Belocian (cruciate ligament injury) and Jonas Hoffman (sprained muscle) are out for Bayer Leverkusen.

Predicted Starting Lineups

Copenhagen: Kotarski, Huescas, Hatzidiakos, Pereira, Lopez, Lerager, Clem, Larsson, Achouri, Moukoko, Elyounoussi

Bayer Leverkusen: Flekken, Tape, Tapsoba, Quansah, Grimaldo, Andrich, Garcia, Tella, Tillman, Kofane, Schick

Verdict

Copenhagen have been struggling in Denmark recently, failing to win their last two home games and losing to Brondby last weekend. Bayer Leverkusen impressed in Kasper Hjulmand’s debut as manager against Frankfurt, so an away win is the best bet.

Another bet worth considering is Patrick Schick to score anytime. The Czech striker has netted four times in his last four appearances for Die Schwarzroten.
