Newcastle have been inconsistent this season but have shown some promise in their return to the Champions League. They had 1.47-1.31 xG in a 2-1 defeat to Barcelona before a 4-0 win at Union Saint-Gilloise where Anthony Gordon scored twice.

Eddie Howe’s side then beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 in the Premier League. Bruno Guimarães and Nick Woltemade scored in a dominant performance as they ended with 3.45-0.30 xG.

The Magpies lost 2-1 at Brighton on Saturday which means they are yet to win on the road in the EPL. Woltemade equalised in the 76th minute but they couldn’t close it out on the south coast.

Benfica Form


Benfica lost their opening two games in the Champions League, beaten 3-2 by Qarabag before a 1-0 defeat at Chelsea. They kept it tight at Stamford Bridge but couldn’t break through.

The Eagles earned an important 0-0 draw at Porto before the international break. They ended the contest with 0.12-0.68 expected goals, José Mourinho desperate not to lose against his former club. 

José Mourinho’s side are coming off a 2-0 win at Chaves in the Portuguese Cup, Vangelis Pavlidis scoring both goals against the second division side.

Tino Livramento and Yoane Wissa are out with knee injuries and Lewis Hall is battling a hamstring issue. Sandro Tonali has been sick but is expected to start.
