The Sony Open in Hawaii gets the 2026 PGA Tour season underway with a strong field lining up. Who will take the title in Honolulu?

Nick Taylor is back to defend his title after a playoff victory over Nico Echavarria in 2025. 

These are our four selections that could win the title this weekend.

Russell Henley 


Russell Henley was in excellent form on the PGA Tour in the latter half of last year, placing T5 at the Memorial Tournament, T10 at the U.S. Open, T2 at the Travelers Championship, T10 at the Open Championship, T17 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, T15 at the BMW Championship, T2 at the Tour Championship and T19 at the Procore Championship. 

Other prominent performances achieved by Henley last season include a T10 at the Sony Open in Hawaii, a T5 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, a T6 at the Cognizant Classic, a victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and a T8 at the RBC Heritage. 

The world's fifth-ranked player has compiled a long history at the Sony Open in Hawaii, with results of victory in 2013, T51 in 2014, T17 in 2015, MC in 2016, T13 in 2017, MC in 2018, 66th in 2019, MC in 2020, T11 in 2021, 2nd in 2022, T32 in 2023, T4 in 2024 and T10 in 2025. 

Henley will start with confidence that he can win another PGA Tour title, as he has previously performed well at the Waiʻalae Country Club.

Ben Griffin


Ben Griffin was performing well in the final months of last season's PGA Tour, placing T11 at the Wyndham Championship, T9 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, T12 at the BMW Championship, T10 at the Tour Championship, 2nd at the Procore Championship, T32 at the DP World India Championship and victory at the World Wide Technology Championship. 

Other notable results achieved by Griffin this year include a T4 at the Mexico Open, a T4 at the Cognizant Classic, a T18 at the Texas Children's Houston Open, a victory at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, a T8 at the PGA Championship, a victory at the Charles Schwab Challenge, a 2nd at the Memorial Tournament, a T10 at the U.S. Open, a T14 at the Travelers Championship and a T13 at the Rocket Classic. 

The 29-year-old American has competed at the Sony Open in Hawaii on three occasions, finishing T12 in 2023, T30 in 2024, and T45 in 2025. 

Griffin cannot be ignored at present and has a chance to win back-to-back titles.

J.J. Spaun


J.J. Spaun was in fine form during the later stages of last season's PGA Tour, placing 2nd at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, T23 at the BMW Championship, T25 at the Tour Championship, 6th at the Procore Championship, T11 at the World Wide Technology Championship and T4 at the Hero World Challenge.

Other noteworthy results achieved by Spaun last year include a T3 at the Sony Open in Hawaii, a T2 at the Cognizant Classic, a 2nd at the Players Championship, a T17 at the Truist Championship, a T6 at the Charles Schwab Challenge, a victory at the U.S. Open, a T14 at the Travelers Championship and a T23 at the Open Championship. 

The U.S. Open champion has featured eight times at the Sony Open in Hawaii, with results of MC in 2017, T47 in 2018, MC in 2020, MC in 2021, MC in 2022, T12 in 2023, MC in 2024 and T3 in 2025.

Spaun has played well in recent months and will fancy his chances of victory in Honolulu this weekend.

Si Woo Kim


Si Woo Kim was in great touch on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour in his last seven starts, placing T14 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, T19 at the BMW Championship, T5 at the BMW PGA Championship, T20 at the Baycurrent Classic, T21 at the Genesis Championship, T4 at the recent RSM Classic and 3rd at the Crown Australian Open. 

Additional highlights achieved by Kim last season include 12th at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, T21 at the WM Phoenix Open, T24 at the Genesis Invitational, T19 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, T8 at the RBC Heritage, T15 at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, T17 at the Truist Championship and T8 at the PGA Championship. 

The three-time PGA Tour winner has made eight appearances at the Sony Open in Hawaii, finishing 4th in 2016, T58 in 2018, MC in 2019, T25 in 2021, T55 in 2022, victory in 2023, T42 in 2024, and MC in 2025. 

Kim has been knocking hard in recent months and looks ready to claim the title in Hawaii this weekend. 

Verdict

Henley has been holding form and has claims for the title at the Wai'alae Country Club this weekend.

Griffin has the game to come out on top at the Sony Open in Hawaii.
 
Spaun can convert his recent results into a winning performance in Honolulu this weekend.

Si Woo Kim has the form to pocket the winner's cheque in Hawaii.
