Portugal has shown remarkable performance by being the only team to defeat Denmark in the current championship. In contrast, France recently suffered a three-goal loss to Denmark. Considering these outcomes, Portugal seems likely to pose a significant challenge against France. A +3.5 handicap in favor of Portugal is suggested as the most promising strategy in what is anticipated to be a close match. This key insight sets the stage for a thrilling contest between the two teams.

Match Preview

Portugal are once again being tagged as underdogs without much justification, considering they have had just as strong a tournament as France so far. With everything on the line, I don’t see them losing by four goals or more in this high-stakes encounter.

France Facing Their First Real Setback

France opened the tournament in dominant fashion with a 42–28 victory over the Czech Republic, followed by another one-sided display against Ukraine, winning 46–26. Dylan Nahi led the scoring in both matches, totaling 12 goals across those two wins.

Their biggest challenge in the group stage came against co-hosts Norway, where Les Bleus thrived in transition and secured a third straight victory, edging out a quality opponent 38–34.

However, France stumbled in the Main Round opener, suffering a painful 32–29 defeat to hosts Denmark. Despite leading at half-time and holding a 26–24 advantage deep into the second half, they collapsed defensively when it mattered most.

Portugal Proving They Belong

Portugal started the tournament with a convincing 40–34 win over Romania, with Francisco Costa carrying the offense by scoring nine goals. They failed to justify favoritism in the second round against North Macedonia, settling for a 29–29 draw, once again relying heavily on Costa, who finished with 11 goals.

The Portuguese then produced one of the biggest shocks of the tournament by defeating reigning world champions Denmark 31–29 in Herning, a result that sent them into the Main Round full of confidence.

That confidence lasted for one half in Thursday’s Main Round opener against Germany. Portugal struggled to maintain their offensive rhythm after the break and suffered their first defeat of the tournament, losing 32–30 despite another outstanding performance from Costa, who scored 10 goals.

Verdict

Portugal remain the only team to beat Denmark at this championship, while France lost to the same opponent by three goals earlier this week. With that in mind, I don’t see Les Bleus as massive favorites here. Portugal to win in a +3.5 handicap looks like the best play in what should be a tight contest.
