Canterbury continue their impressive NPC form after extending their winning streak to seven games, including six consecutive home wins. With a strong record against Northland—five straight home victories and nine wins in the last ten meetings—Canterbury are well-placed to cover the -9.5 handicap. Northland, despite a big win over Taranaki, have struggled away and against Canterbury historically. Expect Canterbury's discipline and consistency to give them the edge in this compelling matchup.

Canterbury have won all three matches thus far and their last seven dating back to 2025. They are the form side and at home should be too good for an entertaining, but inconsistent Northland side.

  • Canterbury have won 6 consecutive home games.
  • Northland have lost 3 of their last 4 away fixtures.
  • Northland have lost 5 consecutive away matches to Canterbury.

Canterbury Unbeaten in NPC 2026

Canterbury scored three converted tries in the first half against Bay of Plenty last weekend, going into the break with a healthy 21-7 lead.

The home side added two tries and a conversion in the second half to beat Bay of Plenty 33-28.

Before that result, the Red and Blacks began their league campaign with a 38-31 home win over Auckland and a 19-15 away victory against Otago.

Canterbury are second in the NPC standings with 14 points after three rounds.

Canterbury extended their winning streak to six in a row at home, and will start confidently against Northland, having beaten them five consecutive times on home soil.

Northland Off Good Win

Northland scored three converted tries in the first half against Taranaki last weekend to lead 21-0 at half-time.

Taniwha continued to play well in the second half, scoring three more converted tries to thrash Taranaki 42-0 at home.

Before that, Northland thumped Manawatu 40-14 at home in their season opener before losing 34-21 away to Bay of Plenty.

Taniwha are fourth in the National Provincial Championship table with 12 points from three matches.

Northland have been in solid form so far but face one of their bogey teams in the NPC, having never defeated Canterbury in their last ten meetings, suffering nine losses and one draw.
