Hurricanes vs Waratahs Predictions

The Hurricanes come into this match off the back of their first defeat of the season. However, they have been very impressive at home, so I do not foresee them struggling on Friday. On the other side, the Tahs’s are a tough side to read with only two victories this season, but five of their last seven defeats have come by less than six points.

With the handicap at 20 in favour of the hosts, it is a tough call to make. However, my money is on the Canes to cover that on home soil as they look to bounce back from last weekend.

The Hurricanes have been superb this season, winning eight of their nine matches to date. They began the season with eight straight wins but were always going to suffer a blip along the way.

The Canes form recently has been magnificent with very few teams even challenging them. They were comfortable winners’ week after week against the Rebels, Highlanders, Chiefs and Fijian Drua.

Last week, however, the Wellington side came up short in Canberra, losing 27-19 to the Brumbies. While it won’t bother the Hurricanes too much, they will want to just straight back onto the winning side this weekend.

The Hurricanes may rest a few players this weekend considering it’s a home game they should win. I don’t see wholesale changes though.

Waratahs Form

The Waratahs had a few horror seasons but seemed to have rectified it last season with a solid campaign. Much was expected of them this time around, and while some results have just not fallen their way, they have not been able to match their consistency from 2023.

Both of the Tahs’ victories this season have strangely enough come against the Crusaders. Those wins were in round two and eight. Last week the Tahs’ were beaten 38-22 at home by the Chiefs.

The week before the Sydney outfit beat the Crusaders but went into that game off the back of defeats against the Rebels at home and the Brumbies away.

Waratahs Injuries & Team News

While the Waratahs are second from bottom, they are still only three points off eighth, the final playoff spot. An upset win here could put them right back in the hunt, so I expect a strong side from them.
