What is WTT Contender Table Tennis

WTT Contender is one of the best world-class competitions that gives a great platform for all players to make their way up the rankings. The main idea was to have 14 WTT Contender events as part of the WTT Contender Series each year.

The WTT Contender events will feature a singles main draw of 32 players – in men’s as well as women’s, 16-pairs of doubles in men’s as well as women’s and eight pairs of mixed doubles.

There is a qualifying event as well preceding the main tournament. Each WTT Contender event organizer will have the liberty of deciding their qualifying draw size for singles – 48, 64, or 96. The doubles qualifying is fixed at 16 or 32 pairs.

There is a national entry restriction in place too, for the WTT Contender events, with a maximum of four singles players from a country permitted across the main draw and the qualifying draw. For doubles, a maximum of eight players are permitted for the same while in mixed doubles, a maximum of four players are permitted in any national association combination.

There is no short of excitement when it comes to WTT Contenders as some of the well-known players make it a point to participate in these tournaments. Ma Long, Fan Zhendong, Wang Chuqin, Xu Xin, Timo Boll, Lin Yun-Ju, Hugo Calderano, Tomkazu Harimoto, Dimitrij Ovtcharov, Truls Moregard, Aruna Quadri, Dang Qiu, Liam Pitchford, Kristian Karlsson, Anton Kallberg, Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, Sun Yingsha, Wang Manyu, Chen Meng, Liu Shiwen, Mima Ito, Hina Hayata, Kasumi Ishikawa, Adriana Diaz, Cheng I-Ching, Mui Hirano, Bruna Takahashi, Lily Zhang, Chen Szu-Yu, Feng Tianwei, Xiaona Shan, Linda Bergstrom are some of the players who grace these tournaments.
