Janice Tjen and Amanda Anisimova are set for an exciting first-time encounter in Dubai. Tjen has regained confidence with her first back-to-back main-draw wins at this level, enhancing her prospects after a strong 2025 performance. However, Anisimova, despite a slow start to the year, has a superior track record against non-top-20 players and remains the strong favorite. Anisimova's recent illness and early exit in recent tournaments have not overshadowed her prowess, making her likely to secure a victory in straight sets, highlighting a thrilling contest ahead.

Tjen Claims First Back-to-Back Wins of 2026

Janice Tjen reached the third round with a 7-6, 6-4 win over Leylah Fernandez. She lost a 3-0 lead in the first set and saved it after Fernandez served for the set twice.

It is her first run of consecutive main-draw wins this season. Before this week, she had won just three matches across five tournaments.

The 23-year-old sits at a career-high No. 46 following a strong 2025 that included a title in Chennai and a runner-up finish in São Paulo.

She now aims for the biggest quarterfinal of her career, having never won back-to-back matches above WTA 250 level until now.

Anisimova Eyes First Deep Run in Dubai

Amanda Anisimova retired in her Doha opener against Karolina Pliskova due to illness. In Dubai, she moved on after Barbora Krejcikova gave a walkover.

She has played three events this year, with early exits in two of them aside from a quarterfinal at the Australian Open.

Anisimova reached a career-high No. 3 after titles in Doha and Beijing and finals at Wimbledon and the US Open, but losing her Doha points dropped her out of the top five.

She has never won back-to-back matches in four previous Dubai main-draw appearances.

Verdict

After a slow start to the season, Tjen’s back-to-back wins have helped restore some confidence, but she still struggles to match the quality of top-tier opponents. That gives Amanda Anisimova the clear edge, and she should be able to win this in straight sets.
