The biggest event in sports entertainment returns to Las Vegas this weekend as Allegiant Stadium plays host to WWE WrestleMania for the second year running, but who will be the winners and losers in the latest instalment of the ‘Showcase of the Immortals’?

Once again the WrestleMania will be a two-night event, with night one being headlined by an undisputed WWE championship match between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton. The first night’s card also hosts several championship matches as well as some big grudge matches, and here we will rundown each bout and offer our picks for WrestleMania Saturday:

Undisputed WWE Championship: Cody Rhodes vs Randy Orton

Randy Orton’s return to the dark side has been met with a mixed response – mainly down to the addition of Pat McAfee to the storyline as a sort of manager/adviser for ‘The Viper’. This very much feels like the start of a long-term story that will go on beyond WrestleMania, and if that is the case it makes sense for Orton to leave Las Vegas as world champion for the 15th time.

Women’s World Championship: Stephanie Vaquer vs Liv Morgan

Stephanie Vaquer has been on a long run, but Liv Morgan remains one of the biggest stars on the female part of the roster and that makes it surprising that this will be Morgan’s first ever singles match at a WrestleMania. We expect the wait to be worth it though. WWE are going all out to promote her ahead of his matchup – including shooting a music video to go with her new theme – and that suggests they have big plans for Morgan beyond Mania.

Seth Rollins vs Gunther

Injuries have certainly had a major impact on the WrestleMania – they are the reason that this match has been thrown together late in the day. It still has the potential to be a showstealer though, and after seeing Gunther ‘retire’ AJ Styles and John Cena in recent months, we would be shocked to see ‘The Ring General’ come out on the losing end here. Some late-match shenanigans and a potential run-in from a returning Bron Breakker could be on the cards, getting Rollins back to his planned feud with his form Vision stablemate.

Women’s Intercontinental Championship: AJ Lee vs Becky Lynch

AJ Lee’s return received a great reaction from fans last year, but unlike Becky Lynch she does not appear to a full-time member of this roster, and it is difficult to see what would come next for her if she retains the women’s intercontinental crown. ‘The Man’ on the other hand, has a long list of potential opponents, so we expect Lee’s reign to end here.

WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship: Nia Jax & Lash Legend vs Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss vs Bayley & Lyra Valkyria vs The Bella Twins

Nikki Bella’s reported ankle injury has had a big impact on the outcome of this matchup. This originally felt like a bout was designed to give the Bellas one last WrestleMania moment and a first ever run as tag team champions, but that no longer appears to be the case. Bayley would be a sentimental pick after the controversy surrounding her Mania snub a year ago, but we would not be surprised to see the WWE keep the belts on Nia Jax and Lash Legend, keeping them strong for when the Bellas finally knock them off their perch.

Unsanctioned Match: Jacob Fatu vs Drew McIntyre

Jacob Fatu and Drew McIntyre may not be high up the card, but this is a match that fans are looking forward too and it has the potential to steal the show. McIntyre is the bigger star at this stage, but he is off to shoot a movie after this event so you would imagine WWE will use the Scot to further boost Fatu’s credibility as a top-line star.

IShowSpeed & The Vision vs LA Knight & The Usos

LA Knight remains one of the most over performers with the fans despite often finding himself getting lost in the shuffle – having him lose in the opening match of WrestleMania in front of a crowd fully in his corner would be a questionable decision. We have seen WWE crowds revolt before, and if Knight loses a match in which two of his opponents are social media stars, it could get the entire weekend off on the wrong foot.
