Belgium Were Outstanding in Groups
Belgium had an amazing run in the EuroVolley 2026 group stages, being the biggest surprise package of this stage after winning all five matches.
After starting the tournament with a narrow 3-2 win over underdogs Spain, the Yellow Tigers claimed three consecutive victories in straight sets against Portugal, Romania and Azerbaijan.
In the final round, they locked horns against the Netherlands in a direct battle for first position, almost wasting a two-set advantage but winning 15-13 in the tiebreaker (3-2 in sets).
Germany Struggling Against Top Opposition
Germany opened EuroVolley 2026 with a surprising 3-0 defeat to underdogs Slovenia, while two victories in the next two rounds against Latvia 3-1 and Hungary 3-0 were just enough to secure the playoffs.
They were easily beaten in their last two appearances, first by one of the co-hosts Turkey 3-1 and then by Poland 3-0.
The Germans made it to the playoffs in the previous EuroVolley 2023 as well, as one of the co-hosts, but were eliminated with a 3-0 defeat to Poland, finishing in 12th place.

Verdict
