Turkey Women are the reigning European champions, and they advanced to the Round of 16 as the second-placed squad from Group A, which was played on their home soil in Istanbul.

The Crescent Stars had zero problems in their opening four appearances, beating Latvia 3-0, Slovenia 3-1, Hungary 3-0 and Germany 3-1.

Turkey were tagged favorites in the final round in a direct clash for first position against Poland. They won the first set in dominant fashion 25-15 but couldn't keep up, losing the encounter 3-2.

Like their upcoming opponents, Azerbaijan were also playing at home in the group stages, claiming third place in Group C with three wins and two defeats.

Their start to the tournament was sensational, claiming three straight victories against Portugal 3-1, Spain 3-0 and Romania 3-2 to secure the playoffs after just three rounds.

In battles for placement, Azerbaijan were smashed by Belgium in straight sets, while offering some resistance in the final round against the Netherlands but ultimately losing 3-1 to a superior side.

Verdict

Turkey v Azerbaijan

Turkey revealed some weak spots in their most recent clash against Poland, and while I have no doubt they will win on Tuesday, I expect Azerbaijan to score at least 60 points. That is a realistic goal even if there are only three sets played.
