France reached the EuroVolley quarter-finals in 2023, where they were stopped by Italy, finishing sixth, which actually marks their best performance in the history of the tournament.
They were one of the worst performers in the recently concluded Volleyball Nations League 2026, finishing in 17th place with a 3-9 record, just barely enough to avoid relegation.
France played three friendly matches last week to prepare for EuroVolley 2026, suffering convincing 3-0 defeats against Italy and Poland, while beating Ukraine 3-2.
Slovakia Arrive in Better Shape
Slovakia also participated in the previous EuroVolley edition, making it to the playoff stages (Round of 16) before suffering a 3-2 defeat to Bulgaria in a fierce battle.
The Slovakians are not members of the Nations League and failed to earn promotion, recently losing to Slovenia 3-0 in the European League semi-finals.
Their results in recent friendlies were mixed, losing to Slovenia 3-1, then drawing 2-2 against the same opponent, while wrapping up preparations with back-to-back wins over Spain 3-1 and 3-2.
