China Hoping to Defy the Odds
China's performances and results have been disastrous this season, and the only reason they are competing in the final tournament instead of being relegated is their status as the host nation.
The hosts managed just one victory in 12 Volleyball Nations League appearances. That lone success came in mid-June against then-bottom-placed Cuba, winning 3-0.
China have since lost eight consecutive matches, taking just one set during Week 3 while suffering defeats to the USA (3-0), France (3-0), Bulgaria (3-1) and Brazil (3-0).
