Match Preview
Poland are the reigning Volleyball Nations League champions and the current favourites to retain the title. Can Slovenia pull off an upset in China?
Slovenia Enjoying a Strong Run
This is Slovenia's third consecutive appearance at the Volleyball Nations League final tournament after reaching the semi-finals last season.
The Slovenians enjoyed an excellent group-stage campaign, finishing third with 10 victories and just two defeats.
They carried that momentum into Week 3 by winning all four matches, defeating Germany (3-1), Iran (3-0), Turkey (3-1) and Serbia (3-0). Jan Kozamernik has been one of their standout performers throughout the season and was recently named Slovenian Player of the Year.
Slovenia also impressed in Wednesday's quarter-final, sweeping Turkey 3-0 despite being pushed to the limit in the final two sets, which they won 35-33 and 39-37.
Poland Looking to Defend Their Crown
Poland have won two Volleyball Nations League titles so far, lifting the trophy in 2023 and 2025, including a convincing 3-0 victory over Italy in last year's final.
The Poles suffered only a couple of slip-ups throughout the campaign, finishing second in the group stage with a 10-2 record while extending their winning streak to 11 matches across all competitions.
Week 3 brought another series of outstanding performances, beginning with straight-set victories over fellow final tournament contenders Bulgaria and Brazil. Poland then defeated France 3-1 before wrapping up the group phase with a dominant 3-0 win against fifth-placed USA.
The reigning champions made another strong start in the quarter-finals, defeating Ukraine 3-1 after taking control of the match early.
Verdict
Poland look unstoppable after winning 11 consecutive matches across all competitions. Slovenia deserve plenty of credit for another impressive campaign, but I expect the reigning champions to prove too strong and cover the -1.5 handicap.
