Maccabi Tel Aviv Struggling Defensively
Maccabi Tel Aviv's pre-season expectations were high after a couple of major signings this summer, but the Yellows have made a disappointing start to the EuroLeague campaign, claiming just two wins in eight appearances so far.
Their form appeared to be improving in early October, as Maccabi claimed a convincing 97-79 victory against Milano on a neutral court in Belgrade, followed by a narrow 90-87 loss to Barcelona in Spain after conceding a three-pointer with one second remaining, and a 91-88 road win against Valencia.
The Yellows were level with Real Madrid for 22 minutes last week at Pionir, but then collapsed defensively, allowing 62 points in the second half and losing 113-99. A similar scenario unfolded on Tuesday, also in Belgrade, as Maccabi conceded 55 points to Crvena Zvezda in the first 20 minutes and suffered a 100-78 defeat.
Paris Showing Signs of Life Despite Poor Start
Although it is still very early in the new campaign, it is already clear that Paris face an uphill battle to reach the playoffs. The French side currently occupy 16th place with a disappointing 2-6 record in the EuroLeague.
Paris claimed their first victory in early October at home, beating slight favorites Zalgiris 82-78. However, the French outfit then suffered four consecutive defeats against ASVEL 98-96, Virtus Bologna 96-94, Crvena Zvezda 90-81 and, most recently, Valencia 104-93.
Paris returned to winning ways quite surprisingly on Tuesday in the United Arab Emirates, beating Dubai 99-93 in an entertaining contest. Nadir Hifi and Jared Rhoden played key roles, scoring 20 points each.
