New York Liberty picked up several important victories recently to climb to fourth place in the Eastern Conference with a 16-13 record.
Their three-game winning streak began on 21st July with a dramatic 99-98 overtime victory over the Dallas Wings on the road, followed by narrow wins against the Chicago Sky (95-94) and Los Angeles Sparks (113-109).
The Liberty came close to extending that run two nights ago but fell just short against the reigning champions Las Vegas Aces, losing 104-99. Breanna Stewart led the way with 26 points and 11 rebounds.
Phoenix Building Momentum
Phoenix Mercury endured a difficult start to the new campaign but found their rhythm in July, climbing to fifth place in the Western Conference. They still need to improve to strengthen their playoff hopes, currently holding an 11-18 record.
The Mercury snapped a five-game losing streak with a 72-63 home victory over the struggling Connecticut Sun on 20th July before following it up with an 86-82 road win against the Los Angeles Sparks.
Phoenix made it three consecutive victories two nights ago by upsetting the favored Golden State Valkyries, completing a second-half comeback to win 91-89. Kahleah Copper starred with 27 points, four rebounds and four assists.
