Although Spain is unlikely to cause an upset against the reigning champions, they are expected to stay competitive and are tipped to win with a +23.5 handicap. The main recommendation is to back Spain within this margin, highlighting their resilience even against top-tier opponents. This analysis suggests that while outright victory is unlikely for Spain, bettors can expect a closer game than the scoreline might suggest, making the handicap bet a value pick for the match.

Match Preview

Spain looked amazing against Australia earlier this week, boosting their confidence ahead of the semifinal battle against intimidating USA. Is there room for an upset in Berlin?

Spain Back in Form After Mali Setback

Spain also had an amazing start to the WC 2026 campaign, crushing the tournament hosts Germany 83-53 in a heavily one-sided clash, even though the pre-game odds suggested a tight encounter.

They were tagged as massive favorites in the second round against Mali but suffered an 82-73 shock defeat, landing just 4 out of 22 three-point attempts while also missing 8 out of 17 free throws.

In the first-place decider, La Roja battled Japan in the third round and delivered, winning convincingly 79-59. Iyana Martin topped the scoring sheet with 20 points, while Awa Thiam had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Their arguably best performance yet came in the quarterfinals, crushing Australia 89-66, forcing 23 turnovers and scoring almost 50% from the field.

USA Favored to Go All the Way

It took only ten minutes for USA to break down China in the opening round, building an early lead and never letting go to claim a convincing 94-61 victory. Four players scored in double digits, while Caitlin Clark stood out with 14 points and 11 assists.

They looked unrecognizable in their second appearance against heavy underdogs Italy, claiming a narrow 55-52 victory while posting disastrous shooting numbers of 28% from the field and landing 1 out of 12 three-point attempts. Jackie Young was the only player to score in double digits (10 points).

The Star and Stripes had no problems in the final round against Czech Republic, though, claiming a commanding 105-64 victory, while also cruising past Hungary 108-56 in the quarterfinals.

Verdict

While I do think Spain's chances of forcing an upset here are minimal, I think they will stay somewhat competitive against the reigning champions and win in a +23.5 handicap.
