Abandoned Football Match Betting Rules - What happens if a match is abandoned or postponed?
- Have you bet on a football match that has been abandoned or postponed?
- Learn what happens to your bet if the game is called off.
Considering how many football matches take place around the world every single day, it is a rare occasion that a match is actually abandoned. It does happen however, particularly in the UK in winter.
What happens to your bet if a game is abandoned or postponed? Here are the rules in case of an abandoned or postponed match:
For UK football competitions and matches televised in the UK
If the match is confirmed to take place within 48 hours of the original kick-off time, all bets on the match will stand, unless:
- If confirmation of the rescheduled start time is not received within 3 hours of the original kick-off time, bets will be void.
- If kick-off time suffers from consecutive delays which take it over the 3 hour period mentioned above, bets will still stand as long as the eventual reschedule is within 48 hours of the original kick-off time.
- If the match does not take place within 48 hours of the original kick-off time bets will be void.
- If the selection is in a multiple bet or accumulator any refund must be requested before kick-off of the first leg of the multiple bet.
- Where a confirmed postponed match features as part of a multiple bet, the bet will stand on the remaining selections in the multiple.
- Please note that games which have their kick-off altered well in advance to accommodate live TV, or to ease fixture congestion will not be classed as postponed.
All other matches
- If the match does not take place before midnight (local time) on the same day, bets will be void.
- Where a postponed match features as part of a multiple bet, the bet will stand on the remaining selections in the multiple.
- Please note that games which have their kick-off altered well in advance to accommodate live TV, or to ease fixture congestion will not be classed as postponed.
Abandoned Matches
- If a match is abandoned, any bets where the outcome has already been decided e.g. half-time result or first team to score will stand. All other bets will be made void regardless of the score-line at the time of abandonment. Abandoned games will be deemed to be games which do not reach their natural conclusion on the calendar date.
- Games where a referee removes the players from the field of play for a temporary period, but resumes the remaining minutes of play on the same calendar date will not be deemed as abandoned.
What happens to accumulators?
If you backed a postponed match in a single bet, the bet is void and the stake will be refunded.
If you backed a postponed match in a double bet, the bet will revert to a single on the remaining selection. If both selections are postponed, the bet is void and stake will be refunded.
If you backed a postponed match in a treble bet, the bet will revert to a double on the remaining 2 selections. If 2 out of 3 selections are postponed, the bet reverts to a single. If all selections are postponed, the bet is void and stake will be refunded.
If you backed a postponed match in an accumulator, the same applies as above. The bet will stand on remaining selections unless all matches are abandoned when the bet becomes void.
