Lamont Roach Jr Unbeaten In Last 8 Fights

Lamont Roach Jr is a former super-featherweight world champion with a professional record of 25-1-3 (10 KOs).

Roach Jr made his professional debut in April 2014, having won Golden Gloves honours as an amateur, and he picked up a string of minor titles as he won his first 16 fights.

His perfect run was ended by a split decision draw with Orlando Cruz in 2018, but he rebounded quickly from that loss, reeling off three consecutive victories to land his first world title shot.

The 30-year-old American challenged Jamel Herring for the WBO super-featherweight crown in November 2019, but came up short on the night as he was beaten by unanimous decision.

Roach Jr bounced back in his next outing, beating Neil John Tabanao by third-round knockout in October 2020, and backed that up in 2021 by stopping Daniel Rosas in the second and out-pointing Rene Alvarado.

‘The Reaper’ then beat Angel Rodriguez by unanimous decision to secure another world title fight in 2023, and this time he took his chance as he edged Hector Garcia by split decision to claim the WBA super-featherweight crown.

He retained it in June 2024 as he stopped Feargal McCrory in June 2024 – but he has not won since.

Roach Jr has seen a fight with Gervonta Davis for the WBA lightweight title and a bout with Isaac Cruz for the interim WBC super-lightweight belt both go to a majority draw.

William Zepeda Aims To Bounce Back From First Loss

William Zepeda is a former interim world lightweight champion with a professional record of 33-1 (27 KOs).

Zepeda entered the professional ranks in November 2015 and won several minor titles on the Mexican scene as he rattled off from 21 consecutive victories before finally attempting to break through in the United States.

He made his US debut in November 2020 – knocking out Roberto Ramirez in the fifth round – and over the next couple of years he registered a string of knockout successes.

One of those came in October 2022 when he beat former IBF super-featherweight world champion Joseph Diaz by unanimous decision.

In July 2024 he knocked out Giovanni Cabrera in the third round, and that was enough to secure his first ever world title fight for November of that year.

Zepeda took on Tevin Farmer for the interim WBC lightweight world title, and he left Saudi Arabia with the championship thanks to a split decision win.

The two men met again in a rematch in March of last year, and the Mexican again emerged as the champion as he this time took the win via majority decision.

However, Zepeda failed to turn that interim crown into a full championship several months later, as he suffered a unanimous decision defeat at the hands of WBC title-holder Shakur Stevenson.

Verdict

William Zepeda’s aggressive approach is something that could catch the judges’ eyes – but he has to land.

Lamont Roach Jr can use his movement to avoid taking damage, score cleanly on the counter, and out-point Zepeda over 12 rounds.
