Five Fears vs Mate y Tapa Betting Predictions

Five Fears and Mate y Tapa will clash on Tuesday, September 15, in the first round of the Rocket League Championship Series 2026 Play-In stage, in what should be a very one-sided game.

Five Fears are a know name in international RLCS events, but not for the right reasons. Despite dominating their region and successfully qualifying for past major events, Five Fears have yet to prove they have what it takes to compete for big trophies, and that is unlikely to change this time out.

Mate y Tapa, on the other side, not only hail from a stronger region, but have also looked more potent in the weeks leading up to the season-culminating event. This makes them the clear favourites to come out ahead on Tuesday and hand 5F yet another international loss.

  • Five Fears do not look prepared
  • Mate y Tapa seem to have an easy task ahead
  • The right team is favoured to win

Five Fears Have Looked Bad Internationally

Five Fears are the most dominant team hailing from the South Saharan African region, having won five SSA Open events this season, including all but SSA Open 1, where Five Fears placed second.

Despite all that success, Five Fears have not impressed anyone with their performances at the Boston and Paris Majors or the Esports World Cup.

Across the three international events, 5F have played eight games and haven’t won a single one. Moreover, they have not won a single map, which is in stark contrast to their near-perfect record in SSA Open events, where Five Fears have dropped just one game this entire season.

The region isn’t know to produce world-class talent, and given Five Fear’s past results on big stages, they are not expected to make much of a splash this time out either.

Mate y Tapa Can Do Well

Mate y Tapa walked through the European Last Chance Qualifier to reach the RLCS World Championship, beating Chippy Chips, PCS Stride, Triple Pop, No Balls Just Chase, and Volare. It was not the toughest run by any means, proving very little about Mate y Tapa and what they’re capable of.

Made up of former Synergy players ajg, Dorito, and coach Pedro “armonik” Palau, this core hasn’t won anything this season. Their most notable accomplishment was placing top-six at EU Open 4, before exiting Open 5 in 13th-16th and Open 6 in ninth-12th.

Bing an European team raises Mate y Tapa’s stock a bit, but given their performances this season, they are not among the main candidates to make it far in the world championship.

Verdict

Five Fears have been incredible in regional events, where they’ve dropped just one game this entire season. However, on the international stage, they’ve managed a 0-8 record, with all eight losses ending in clean sweeps.

Results like that do not inspire much confidence that Five Fears can succeed at the RLCS World Championship.

Mate y Tapa haven’t been great, but they hail from Europe, where they’ve faced stronger teams than Five Fears, so Tuesday’s game should not present them with much of a challenge.
