The upcoming friendly between Canada and Uzbekistan is expected to be a low-scoring affair, as both teams have consistently seen games with under 2.5 goals in recent matches. Canada, having qualified as a 2026 World Cup co-host, has failed to impress in friendlies, while Uzbekistan makes its World Cup debut after a strong qualifying campaign. Given their cautious play styles and focus on player fitness, betting on under 2.5 total goals is considered the safest option.

A majority of Canada’s recent international friendlies ended with low number of goals. I don’t expect this match to have a lot of tempo as both sides will surely try to avoid potential injuries, so under 2.5 goals is probably the best bet.

Key Stats

  • Canada have seen under 2.5 goals in 7 of their last 8 matches.
  • Uzbekistan have seen under 2.5 goals in 5 of their last 9 matches.

Just One Previous Meeting

This is going to be the second head to head meeting between Canada and Uzbekistan.

Canada Failed to Impress in Recent Friendlies

Canada automatically qualified for the World Cup 2026 as one of the co-hosts. They will be playing in Group B alongside Qatar, Switzerland and Bosnia & Herzegovina.

The Reds started 2026 with a narrow 1-0 home victory against Guatemala in a friendly match, Jacen Russell-Rowe finding the net in the 66th minute, followed by a 2-2 draw against Iceland.

Their most recent clash was in April, a goalless draw against Tunisia in Toronto where Canada had 0.88-0.29 expected goals, 58% possession and 6-2 shots on target.

Uzbeks Preparing for their First WC

Uzbekistan historically qualified for the first time for the FIFA World Cup 2026 after finishing 2nd in Group A of the Asian Qualifiers, claiming six wins, three draws and losing one match.

They have been out of competitive action for a while. Their most recent games were at FIFA Series tournament where the White Wolves beat Gabon 3-1 in the semifinals at home.

Uzbekistan won the tournament after beating Venezuela on penalties, the regular time ending in a goalless draw.

Team News & Predicted Lineups

Canada (4-4-2) Maxime Crepeau; Alistair Johnston, Derek Cornelius, Joel Waterman, Richie Laryea; Tajon Buchanan, Stephen Eustaquio, Ismael Kone, Ali Ahmed; Jonathan David, Cyle Larin

The home side have to cope without their influential captain Alphonso Davies, who remains sidelined with a hamstring strain.

Uzbekistan (3-4-3) Utkir Yusupov; Umar Eshmurodov, Abdukodir Khusanov, Rustam Ashurmatov; Khojiakbar Alijonov, Odiljon Hamrobekov, Otabek Shukurov, Farrukh Sayfiev; Jaloliddin Masharipov, Eldor Shomurodov, Abbosbek Fayzullaev

brokhimkhalil Yuldoshev and Husniddin Aliqulov have both been ruled out due to injuries.

Verdict

Seven of Canada’s last eight international friendlies have ended with two goals or less. I don’t see them or Uzbekistan taking a lot of risks on Monday, so under 2.5 goals looks like the best bet.
