H2H - Villans Dominate

Aston Villa have a 20-6 advantage against Brighton, alongside 10 draws.

Aston Villa Maintaining Top 4 Push

Aston Villa have been consistent in their pursuit of a top-four finish in the Premier League this season. The Midlands side have a four-point buffer inside the top four positions.

Unai Emery’s side have been tough to beat in all competitions, with just two defeats in nine. Villa sealed three consecutive wins against Fenerbahce 1-0, Newcastle 2-0 and Salzburg 3-2 before a 1-0 league loss to Brentford.

The Villans recovered and held on to third place in the Premier League after a 1-1 draw at Bournemouth. Morgan Rogers opened the scoring before Villa conceded with 30 minutes remaining.

Brighton Slipping Down the EPL Table

Fabian Hurzeler's Brighton were challenging for a European spot in the Premier League in November. The Seagulls have since slipped into mid-table after one win in 12.

The south coast side have struggled to claw back up the table recently following a five-match winless run. Brighton have dropped recent points away at West Ham 2-2 and Fulham 2-1.

The Seagulls’ downturn in form continued on Sunday following a 1-0 home loss to Premier League rivals Crystal Palace. Hurzeler's outfit had just two shots on target, allowed 1.16 XG and conceded mid-way through the second half.

Predicted Starting Lineups & Team News

Aston Villa (4-3-2-1): Emiliano Martinez; Matty Cash, Ezri Konsa, Tyrone Mings, Lucas Digne; Amadou Onana, Douglas Luiz; Jadon Sancho, Morgan Rogers, Emiliano Buendia; Ollie Watkins

Midfield trio John McGinn, Boubacar Kamara and Youri Tielemans are ruled out due to injury. Defender Andres Garcia is also unavailable with a thigh problem.

January arrival Alysson remains a doubt for Brighton. Unai Emery explained that the attacker is recovering from a knee issue and said,  “Alysson is coming back progressively and, of course, we have three players in the middle, Kamara, Youri and McGinn out.”

Brighton (4-2-3-1): Bart Verbruggen; Joel Veltman, Oliver Boscagli, Lewis Dunk, Ferdi Kadioglu; Carlos Baleba, Pascal Gross; Diego Gomez, Georginio Rutter, Karou Mitoma; Danny Welbeck

Defensive pair Mats Weiffer and Adam Webster are injured. Midfielders Solly March and Yasin Ayari and striker Stefanos Tzimas are also unavailable due to injuries.

Jan Paul van Hecke missed the Crystal Palace game with a hamstring issue. Fabian Hurzeler described the defender’s absence as “precautionary” and said he could return for the Villa game.

Verdict

Aston Villa are in-form at home and Brighton have dropped a lot of Premier League points recently. A Villa home win has value.
