H2H

Liverpool have a 110-63 advantage against Man City, alongside 58 draws.

Liverpool Looking Solid Under Iraola

Liverpool have gradually improved since Andoni Iraola’s appointment in June. The Reds are undefeated in 11 of 13 matches in all competitions under their new boss.

The Merseysiders have won four of their last five matches, starting with a 2-0 victory at Ipswich and a 2-1 home win over Atletico Madrid.

A 0-0 home draw with Fulham followed before Liverpool beat Tottenham 3-1 at home in the EFL Cup. The Reds had 26 shots in total across both matches.

Iraola’s side followed the Tottenham win with a comfortable 1-0 away victory at Bournemouth. Liverpool had 1.65-0.79 XG and Alexander Isak scored the winner on 57 minutes.

Man City Face First Game After PL Charges

Man City were found guilty of 114 of 115 breaches of Premier League financial rules from 2009 to 2018. The club have appealed the ruling.

City boss Enzo Maresca said the team are “feeling fantastic” despite the fallout from the rule breach verdict. The Citizens are top of the 2026/27 Premier League after winning all five matches.

The Manchester outfit are on a seven-match winning streak in all competitions. They have beaten Crystal Palace 4-1, Porto 2-0 and Man United 1-0 away in that spell.

Maresca’s side continued their winning run with a 5-3 home win against Sunderland. Enzo Fernandez, Rayan Cherki, Antoine Semenyo and Erling Haaland scored as City had 2.82 XG.

Predicted Starting Lineups & Team News

Liverpool (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Ronald Araujo, Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, Milos Kerkez; Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister; Rio Ngumoha, Florian Wirtz, Victor Munoz; Bradley Barcola

Defender Giovanni Leoni and striker Hugo Ekitike are injured and won’t feature. Centre-back Jeremie Jacquet is an injury doubt following a recent hamstring issue.

Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo withdrew from international duty and could miss out against City. Andoni Iraola issued a recent update on the attacking duo and said, “right now they are both injured.”

Man City (4-2-3-1): Gianluigi Donnarumma; Matheus Nunes, Ruben Dias, Marc Guehi, Joskov Gvardiol; Enzo Fernandez, Elliot Anderson; Jeremy Doku, Rayan Cherki, Antoine Semenyo; Erling Haaland

Midfielder Phil Foden is suspended and unavailable for the Liverpool game. Defender Nico O’Reilly withdrew from the England squad and is doubtful here.

Erling Haaland came off early in Norway’s Nations League game against Portugal on Sunday. The striker is expected to be fit and available against Liverpool following a planned early substitution to manage fatigue.

Verdict

Liverpool will want to maintain their strong start to the Premier League campaign. The Reds hit good form before the international break and can hold Man City at Anfield.
