Why Arsenal Are the Undisputed Favourites for the 2026-27 Premier League Title

The 2026-27 English Premier League campaign is upon us and the shift in power appears to be complete. After breaking through to win last season, Arsenal have become the team to beat.

Following a dominant 3-0 victory over Manchester City in the Community Shield, Mikel Arteta’s side have firmed in the betting market and are short priced to go back to back.

  • Manager: Mikel Arteta
  • Key Players: David Raya, Gabriel Magalhães, Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, Viktor Gyökeres
  • In: Illan Meslier (Leeds United), Piero Hincapie (Bayer Leverkusen), Bruno Guimarães (Newcastle), Christos Tzolis (Club Brugge)
  • Out: Jakub Kiwior (Porto), Christian Norgaard (Everton), Leandro Trossard (Besiktas)

Here are the top five reasons why Arsenal are the deserved favourites to lift the Premier League trophy in May.

 5. Mental Supremacy Over Man City

Manchester City held a psychological stranglehold on the Premier League but that aura has been shattered. Pep Guardiola’s exit leaves City vulnerable as proved in the Community Shield on Sunday.

Arsenal took less than a minute to take the lead, the London side extending their lead through Kai Havertz and captain Martin Odegaard making it 3-0 in the 48th minute.
From there, Arsenal put on a defensive clinic to neutralise Erling Haaland, securing a clean sheet and lifting the first piece of silverware this season. If that performance is a preview of the season to come, the Premier League trophy is destined for North London.

4. An Impenetrable Defence

Title winning teams are built from the back, and Arsenal's defense is the most formidable unit in Europe.

William Saliba's injury is a blow, but Cristhian Mosquera's partnership with Gabriel Magalhães proved they are well placed to cover for the Frenchman.

With plenty of midfield options to shield a defence held together by goalkeeper David Raya, Arsenal's ability to stop world class attackers provides the perfect foundation for Arteta’s attackers to shine.

3. A Dominant Midfield

Arsenal’s engine room has been completely overhauled into a terrifying mix of creativity, grit and control.
The integration of Bruno Guimarães into a midfield containing Martín Zubimendi, Declan Rice and rising academy star Myles Lewis-Skelly gives the Gunners depth and tactical flexibility.

2. Elite Attacking Fluidity

The fluidity of Arsenal’s attack makes them a nightmare to defend against. With Martin Odegaard the chief playmaker backed up by Eberechi Eze, there is plenty of room for the wingers to go to work.

Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, Noni Madueke and Christos Tzolis are the main options with 16-year-old sensation Max Dowman set to get more minutes.

Further up the pitch Arteta can call on the guile of Kai Havertz or the speed and strength of Viktor Gyökeres. Gabriel Jesus remains a top quality option off the bench.

Arsenal's threats come from every angle, making them almost impossible to shut out over 90 minutes.

1. Managerial Stability

One of the most critical factors in Arsenal's success is the alignment between manager Mikel Arteta and the club's hierarchy.
After transforming the culture, recruitment and identity of the club since his arrival in December 2019, Arteta has established an environment of long-term stability.

In an era where top clubs are constantly cycling through managers, Arsenal’s commitment to Arteta and his reciprocal love for the club gives the Gunners a structural advantage over their more volatile rivals.
