Everton and Sunderland prepare to clash in the FA Cup amidst a backdrop of recent struggles and missing key players. Their recent form reflects a pattern of draws - Everton has managed only one win in six matches while Sunderland remains winless in ten of their last twelve fixtures. Historically, Everton holds an advantage with 83 wins to Sunderland's 71, but both teams are currently lacking momentum. Given these circumstances and their current form, a draw seems a likely outcome.

Everton vs Sunderland Preview

Everton and Sunderland haven’t won many games recently and both sides are missing key players. An FA Cup draw is likely between two out-of-form teams on Saturday.

Key Stats - Lots of Recent Draws

  • Everton have drawn 2 of their last 4 matches.
  • Everton are unbeaten in their last 4 games against Sunderland.
  • Sunderland have drawn 4 of their last 5 matches.

H2H

Everton have an 83-71 advantage against Sunderland, alongside 31 draws.

Everton Are Inconsistent

Everton’s form has dropped off recently after just one victory in their previous six matches.

The Toffees lost 2-0 at Chelsea and 1-0 at home against Arsenal before a 0-0 draw with Burnley. David Moyes’ side then beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 and lost 4-2 against Brentford at home.

The Merseyside outfit gave up a 1-0 lead and drew 1-1 against Wolves on Wednesday. Michael Keane scored early and Everton conceded the equaliser with 20 minutes remaining.

Sunderland the Draw Specialists

Sunderland have struggled for consistency recently and are winless in 10 of their last 12 fixtures. They have drawn seven Premier League games in that period.

The Black Cats’ last victory came against Newcastle at home 1-0. Sunderland then drew four matches in a row across December and January.

Regis Le Bris’ side lost 3-0 at Brentford last time out. The Wearsiders conceded after 30 minutes and Enzo Le Fee missed a penalty before Brentford struck two late goals.

Predicted Starting Lineups & Team News

Everton (4-2-3-1): Jordan Pickford; Nathan Patterson, James Tarkowski, Jake O’Brien, Vitaly Mykolenko; James Garner, Timothy Iroegbunam; Harrison Armstrong, Dwight McNeil, Tyler Dibling; Thierno Barry

Defender Michael Keane and forward Jack Grealish are suspended. Midfielder Idrissa Gueye and attacker Iliman Ndaiye are on AFCON duty.

Midfielders Carlos Alcaraz and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall are ruled out due to injury. Defensive duo Seamus Coleman and Jarrad Branthwaite are also injured.

Sunderland (4-2-3-1): Robin Roefs; Trai Hume, Nordi Mukiele, Dan Ballard, Omar Alderete; Lutsharel Geertruida, Granit Xhaka; Eliezer Mayenda , Enzo Le Fee, Romaine Mundle; Brian Brobbey

Midfielder Habib Diarra, defenders Noah Sadiki and Arthur Masuaku, and attackers Chemsdine Talbi and Bertrand Traore are on international duty.

Defender Aji Alese is out with a shoulder issue and striker Wilson Isidor is an injury doubt. Regis Le Bris updated on Isidor ahead of the Brentford game and said, "He'll have a test on the pitch to see if he can be available."

Verdict

Everton have struggled for consistency at home and Sunderland rarely win. These sides are in similar form and a draw is the best bet in the FA Cup.
