Arsenal are set to face Portsmouth in the FA Cup, bringing their strong form and a three-match winning streak. Historically, Arsenal have dominated matches against Portsmouth with a 33-14-24 record. Portsmouth, currently struggling in the Championship, are unlikely to change that pattern. With top Premier League form and a well-fought prediction of a win under 3.5 goals, Arsenal are expected to efficiently break through Portsmouth’s defense. Despite injury concerns on both sides, Arsenal's quality seems likely to secure them an away victory.

Portsmouth Inconsistent

Portsmouth are struggling in the 2025/26 Championship and sit 21st in the table. The south coast side have won just three of their previous 15 fixtures.

Pompey put together a four-match unbeaten run in late December. They beat Blackburn and Charlton 2-1 and drew 1-1 wiith Derby and QPR.

The unbeaten streak ended after a 5-0 loss at Bristol City. John Mousinho’s side had just 0.42 XG, conceded four in 59 minutes and shipped a late fifth.

Arsenal Win Most Matches

Arsenal are in excellent form this season and are top of the Premier League table. Mikel Arteta’s outfit are undefeated in eight games, winning six.

The Gunners won three conseucitve games, beating Brighton 2-1, Aston Villa 4-1 and Bournemouth 3-2.

Arteta’s team extended their unbeaten streak following a 0-0 home draw against Liverpool. Arsenal had just 0.57XG, four shots on target and couldn’t score.

Predicted Starting Lineups & Team News

Portsmouth (4-2-3-1): Nicolas Schmid; Terry Devlin, Conor Shaughnessy, Regan Poole; Zak Swanson; Andre Dozzell, Luke Le Roux; Adrian Segecic, John Swift, Ibane Bowat; Makenzie Kirk

Forward trio Thomas Waddingham, Josh Murphy and Florian Bianchini are injured. Defender Josh Knight is out with a back issue and full-back Connor Ogilvie has a knee injury.

Mark Kosznovszky missed the Bristol City game. John Mousinho explained that the midfielder will be out for the rest of the season and said, “He’s devastated at the news. He’s torn his ACL and his MCL, he’s going to have surgery and is going to be out for anywhere between 9-12 months.”

Arsenal (4-3-3): Kepa Arrizabalaga; Ben White, Jurrien Timber, Gabriel, Myles Lewis-Skelly; Mikel Merino, Christian Noorgaard, Martin Zubemendi; Noni Madueke, Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli

Midfielder Max Dowman is ruled out with a long-term ankle injury. Full-back Piero Hincapie came off injured against Liverpool and is an injury doubt here.

Riccardo Calafiori and Cristhian Mosquera are expected to miss out here. Mikel Arteta explained that the defensive pair are progressing well and said, “They have to go to the last stage of the rehab. And if everything goes well, hopefully very soon, they will be available for selection.”

Verdict

Portsmouth are unlikely to see much of the ball against in-form Arsenal. The Gunners can control this game and advance with a low scoring FA Cup victory.
