Inter Milan are currently leading the Serie A with a nine-point advantage as they prepare to face Cagliari. Despite some defensive vulnerabilities since the international break, Inter is expected to secure a comfortable victory, continuing their favorable head-to-head record against Cagliari. Marcus Thuram is anticipated to shine again after an impressive performance against Roma and Como. Cagliari, while showing signs of improvement, are likely to struggle despite recent form enhancements. This match could be pivotal as Inter inches closer to the Serie A title.

Cagliari took a step away from the relegation zone last weekend but this a big test. Inter Milan dodged a bullet in Como, a return to San Siro just what the doctor ordered.

Inter Milan have won more than half of their matches against Cagliari, leading 53-13 alongside 32 draws.

Inter Nine Points Clear


The international break came at a good time for Inter Milan who failed to win in March. The run came after two defeats against Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League.

Cristian Chivu’s side returned to action with an exciting 5-2 win against Roma. Lautaro Martinez returned from injury and scored twice, Marcus Thuram registering a goal and two assists.

I Nerazzurri are coming off another thriller, winning 4-3 at Como. Thuram and Denzel Dumfries scored twice to overturn an early 2-0 lead, holding on in a game where they had 0.88-3.12 xG.

With the Serie A title challengers faltering, Inter’s lead at the top was extended to nine points with six games remaining.

Breathing Room for Cagliari 


Cagliari were unable to win in February and March, earning two draws and five defeats in seven games.

Fabio Pisacane’s side returned from the break with a 2-1 defeat at Sassuolo. They had 1.63-0.51 and should have got something from the contest.

Cagliari moved three points away from the relegation zone after a 1-0 victory over Cremonese. Sebastiano Esposito continued his fine form, scoring his third goal in four appearances.

Verdict

Inter’s defence has been weak since the international break but I am expecting a response here. Cagliari are likely to get outclassed here, Marcus Thuram to continue his scoring form in Serie A.
