Melbourne City are backed to maintain their strong home form int the AFC Champions Leageu by edging a first leg lead in this Round of 16 tie. City defeated Buriram at home during the league phase of the competition and I'm backing a repeat.

City pulled off a brilliant comeback to prevail 2-1 over Buriram in the league phase, with Elbasan Rashani and Max Caputo scoring in the 84th and 97th minutes respectively after Goran Causic had earlier but the Thai side ahead in the 72nd.

Melbourne City ACL Form Continues

While City have put together an excellent Champions League campaign, they have been struggling considerably in the A-League.

City's 2-1 win over Buriram sparked a six-game unbeaten run in the Champions League as the reigning A-League champions finished in fifth spot.

However, City have been poor domestically and still haven't won back-to-back A-League games heading into Round 20.

It's been a hugely disappointing last fortnight, with City conceding six goals in a 3-1 defeat to rivals Melbourne Victory before this past weekend's 3-1 loss away to Auckland.

“As good as the form has been in the (Champions League), the form hasn’t been at all consistent in the A-League, and we need to turn that around,” Vidmar said.
“We were absolutely fine prior to Christmas in both competitions, but as the season goes, it gets a little bit tougher."

Buriram United Flying High

Buriram finished one rung above City in fourth spot on the Champions League ladder on goals scored, winning four of their eight games.

As usual, Buriram are flying high at the top of the Thai Premier League table, winning 17 of their 21 games this season and opening up an 11-point lead over 2nd-placed Ratchaburi.

The goals have been flowing lately for Mark Jackson's side - after a 2-0 win on the final Champions League matchday over Shanghai Shenhua, Buriram demolished Sukhothai 6-0 before another 6-0 win in the Thai Cup over Khonkaen United.

Australian defender Curtis Good - who has the most ever appearances for Melbourne City - will line up for Buriram and has scored two goals during the CL campaign.

Both teams are tipped to score, with City to continue their strong CL form at home.
