Mumbai City and Mohammedan SC face off in Friday's ISL fixture with both teams searching for form. Mumbai holds a flawless record against Mohammedan, winning all four previous encounters, and are expected to edge out a win despite their recent slump. Mohammedan, winless in 11 games, continue to struggle, especially after a string of away fixtures. Predicted lineups show minimal changes, with Mumbai expected to field a strong side. Expert analysis predicts a low-scoring match with an away win for Mumbai City.

Mohammedan vs Mumbai City Predictions

Mumbai City have not been in the best of form, but they should have enough quality to claim victory in Friday's ISL fixture.

An away win with under 3.5 goals is my preferred pick.

Low-Scoring Away Win Likely

  • Mohammedan have seen under 3.5 goals in 4 of their last 6 matches
  • Mohammedan lost 8 of their last 11 matches (ISL)
  • Mumbai City won their last 4 matches against Mohammedan
  • Mumbai City have seen under 3.5 goals in 13 of their last 14 matches
  • Mumbai City have seen an average of 1.5 goals per game scored in their last 6 away matches (ISL)

Mumbai Boast 100% H2H Record Against Mohammedan

Mohammedan and Mumbai City have met on four previous occasions since 2022. Mumbai won all four matches, including a 1-0 win at this venue in last season's corresponding fixture.

Mohammedan Struggles Continue

Mohammedan return to Salt Lake Stadium after a disappointing 3-1 road reversal at Kerala Blasters last Sunday. Mahitosh Roy's goal gave Mohammedan a first-half lead, but Mehrajuddin Wadoo's side were unable to hold on as the Blasters fought back to secure the points at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

The Black Panthers could have few complaints, with the hosts proving good value for their victory. Kerala registered an xG of 2.22 from 15 attempts. Mohammedan had just eight shots and a final xG of 0.51.

Wadoo's men have made a dire start to the ISL season, remaining winless from 11 fixtures completed (D3, L8). The ISL strugglers did manage to pick up three successive away draws before their defeat in Delhi.

A tough schedule has made life difficult for Mohammedan, with nine of those first 11 games taking place on away soil.

Now set for their first home fixture since March, Wadoo's side slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Bengaluru in their most recent game at Salt Lake Stadium.

Mumbai City Winless in Four

Mumbai City come into Friday's ISL fixture after a narrow 2-1 home defeat to league leaders East Bengal last weekend.

Brandon Fernandes gave the Islanders the perfect start, but second-half goals from Youssef Ezzejjari (58', pen) and Nandhakumar Sekar (71') secured victory for the Red and Golds.

In an evenly-balanced contest, Mumbai were unlucky not to take at least a point from last Sunday's contest. Peter Kraty's men had higher tallies for both shots (13-11) and xG (1.17 - 1.05) but were unable to find a leveller.

The Islanders have gone off the boil in recent weeks, failing to win any of their last four league fixtures (D2, L2). Petr Kratky's side made a strong start to the campaign, winning five of their opening eight unbeaten ISL matches.

Mumbai have remained solid travellers, though, winning three and losing just one of their six away league fixtures this season.

Predicted Lineups and Team News

Mohammedan (4-1-4-1) Padam Chettri; Hira Mondal, Pukhrambam Dinesh Meitei, Gaurav Bora, Zodingliana Ralte; Lalremsanga Fanai; Lalngaihsaka Lalnuntluanga, Yash Chickro, Makan Winkle Chote, Fardin Ali Molla; Israfil Dewan.

Head coach Wadoo will be forced into at least one change to his selection on Friday. Amarjit Singh misses out after picking up a late red card against Kerala Blasters. Yash Chickro stands by to come into the first XI.

The Black Panthers have no reported injury issues.

Mumbai City FC (4-2-3-1) Phurba Lachenpa; Valpuia, Bijay Chhetri, Nuno Reis, Akash Mishra; Zothanpuia, Joni Kauko; Lallianzuala Chhangte, Brandon Fernandes, Noufal PN; Vikram Partap Singh.

Mumbai City boss Kratky is unlikely to make changes from the side that fell to a narrow defeat against ISL leaders East Bengal. Jorge Diaz is available again but is expected to settle for a place on the bench this week.

Verdict

Neither side are in great form, but Mumbai's greater quality should see them over the line in a tight ISL road win. I have my stake on the visitors to claim the spoils with fewer than four match goals.
