In a significant move, Tottenham Hotspur has parted ways with head coach Thomas Frank after eight months. His domestic struggles, particularly a disappointing league performance, led to his dismissal. The decision came after a home defeat against Newcastle and ahead of the critical North London Derby. With Frank’s departure, bookmakers favor Roberto De Zerbi as the next manager. De Zerbi recently left Marseille and is noted for a high-risk, high-reward strategy that Spurs fans have missed. Other contenders include John Heitinga and Robbie Keane, with Mauricio Pochettino also in the discussion.

The hammer has finally fallen in North London. Tottenham officially confirmed the departure of head coach Thomas Frank, ending a turbulent eight-month tenure that has left the club languishing in the Premier League.

Spurs released a statement that read in part: "Thomas was appointed in June 2025, and we have been determined to give him the time and support needed to build for the future together.

However, results and performances have led the Board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary."

The decision comes less than 24 hours after a demoralising 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle United, a result that saw the Spurs faithful erupt in chants for former boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Despite leading the club to the Champions League Round of 16, Frank’s domestic form proved fatal. A run of one win in eleven league matches left the board with little choice but to act before the upcoming North London Derby on February 22.

The Betting Landscape: Who Leads the Race?

With Frank out, the market is moving fast. Bookmakers including Stake.com have immediately installed Roberto De Zerbi as the frontrunner.

The timing is uncanny, with the Italian having left Marseille by mutual consent just hours before Frank’s dismissal.

The Leading Candidates to Replace Thomas Frank

Roberto De Zerbi - De Zerbi is the man of the hour. Having recently departed Marseille, he is the most high-profile coach available for immediate hire.

His high-risk, high-reward approach aligns with the style that fans have craved since the Postecoglou era. His previous success with Brighton proves he can navigate the Premier League.

John Heitinga - Frank’s former assistant, who only joined the staff in January, is the leading internal candidate.

While fans may be wary of his mixed record at Ajax, the board may view him as a safe pair of hands to steady the ship until the end of the season, especially with the club currently just five points above the drop zone.

Robbie Keane - The former Spurs captain has seen his stock rise significantly following his impressive stint at Ferencvaros.

While his lack of elite-level managerial experience is a concern in a relegation scrap, his status as a club icon could provide the emotional lift the dressing room desperately needs.

Mauricio Pochettino - While Pochettino is currently leading the United States toward their home World Cup this summer, the lure of returning to London remains potent.

Any move for the Argentine would likely have to wait until July, which might necessitate an interim appointment in the meantime.
