Shanghai Port vs Ulsan Live Stream & Tips - Port Tipped to Avoid AFC Defeat

In the upcoming AFC Elite encounter, Shanghai Port seeks to extend their unbeaten streak as they host Ulsan, who have been struggling with only one win in ten away matches. With Shanghai Port performing reliably at home and holding a superior head-to-head record, they are favored to at least avoid defeat. Ulsan's recent form has been underwhelming, and they face a tough challenge on the road. The recommended bet favors a home win or draw for Shanghai Port.

Shanghai Port vs Ulsan Predictions

Ulsan need the points, but the visitors look far too short to back in China. I fancy Shanghai Port to avoid defeat in Wednesday’s AFC Elite encounter.

Ulsan Struggles Continue

  • Shanghai Port are unbeaten in their last 2 matches (AFC Elite)
  • Ulsan failed to win 9 of their last 10 matches
  • Ulsan failed to win 8 of their last 10 away matches (AFC Elite)

Shanghai Port Edge H2H Record

Shanghai Port and Ulsan have met on five previous occasions. Shanghai Port won three games while Ulsan scored just one victory.

Shanghai Pick Up Back-to-Back Draws

Shanghai Port bring their AFC Elite campaign to a conclusion on Wednesday after a goalless draw in their penultimate East section fixture against Gangwon.

A solid defensive display from Kevin Muscat’s side saw them restrict their Chinese hosts to an XG of just 0.81 as they emerged with a hard-fought draw at Chuncheon Songam Sports Town.

Still, a largely fruitless continental campaign has seen the CSL side fail to win any of seven East section fixtures (D3, L4).

The CSL champions have played just twice since claiming Chinese Super League title glory in November. Shanghai also claimed a goalless draw against JDT in December, before sharing the spoils against Gangwon.

Ulsan Out-of-Sorts

Ulsan make the trip to China after a 2-1 home reversal against Melbourne City last week. A stoppage-time goal from Marcus Younis condemned the KL1 side to a devastating defeat at Ulsan Munsu Football Stadium.

The Tigers have struggled to find much form since the end of last year. Ulsan lost each of their last four matches, while they also failed to win any of four previous ACL contests.

Placed ninth in the AFC Elite East section, Ulsan must pick up at least a point to secure qualification for the knockout phase.

On the road, Kim Hyun-Seok's side won just two of ten previous continental fixtures, while they picked up just one point from three away games this season.

Predicted Lineups and Team News

Shanghai Port (4-3-3) Yan Junling; Umidjan Yusup, Li Shuai, Li Ang, Lü Yongtao; Jean-Claude Aziangbe, Mateus Vital, Óscar Melendo; Jin Feng, Liu Zhurun, Matty Orr.

Head coach Muscat has three players unavailable this week. Zhen’ao Wang remains sidelined with a cruciate ligament tear, while Lei Wu also misses out with a knee injury. Brazilian forward Leo is also tipped to remain unavailable.

Speaking after their AFC Elite elimination was confirmed following last week’s draw with Gangwon, Muscat praised his side’s attitude.

“Qualification was extremely difficult and almost impossible, but we showed great commitment. I’m very happy with the standards we’ve set for ourselves heading into the new season,” he said.

Ulsan HD (4-3-3) Jo Hyeon-woo; Yoon Jong-gyu, Seo Myung-gwan, Kim Young-gwon, Sim Sang-min; Lee Dong-gyeong, Darijan Bojanić, Lee Kyu-seong; Kang Sang-woo, Lee Hee-gyun, Yago Cariello.

Ulsan HD boss Kim Hyun-Seok has no reported injury issues ahead of the trip to China. Jang Si-young and Hyun-taek Cho are among those in contention to earn recalls to the first XI on Wednesday.

Verdict

Shanghai look like a good bet to avoid defeat against an Ulsan side that rarely travels well. A home win or draw is my preferred pick on Wednesday.
