St. Mirren vs Partick Thistle Betting Tips & Tips - Tight Premiership Playoffs Tie Tipped

St. Mirren host Partick Thistle for the decisive second leg of the Scottish Premiership playoff, following a tense 1-1 draw in Glasgow. Both teams have strong defensive records and low-scoring trends, with St. Mirren netting just 11 home goals all season and Partick losing only one in their last 21 matches. Expect a nervy, low-scoring affair – under 2.5 goals is the key pick, and another draw cannot be ruled out as both sides battle for promotion or survival.

St. Mirren vs Partick Thistle Predictions

Last week’s first leg finished as a tight 1-1 draw at Firhill, and a similarly nervy affair should be on the cards in Paisley.

I’m backing under 2.5 goals, and it would come as no surprise if this playoff tie went the distance.

Tight Contest Expected in Paisley

  • St. Mirren have seen under 2.5 goals in 5 of their last 6 matches
  • St. Mirren have seen an average of 1.71 goals scored in their last 19 home matches (Premiership)
  • St. Mirren have drawn their last 2 matches
  • Partick Thistle have seen under 2.5 goals in 6 of their last 8 matches
  • Partick Thistle have drawn 6 of their last 8 matches

St. Mirren Hold Narrow H2H Advantage Against Partick

St. Mirren and Partick Thistle have met on only six occasions since 2015. St. Mirren won three of those fixtures, while Partick claimed two victories.

St. Mirren Held in Glasgow

St Mirren return to the SMISA Stadium after a hard-fought 1-1 draw in last Thursday’s Premiership playoff final first leg. Killian Phillips fourth goal of the season secured a valuable road result for Craig McLeish's side.

Both teams had their moments in a competitive encounter at Firhill. St Mirren edged the shot count, with 15 to Partick’s 12, but were unable to find a winner in Glasgow.

The Buddies have struggled to find much winning form in the past two months. St.Mirren lost five successive fixtures between April and May before remaining unbeaten in their last three fixtures (W1, D2).

A lack of quality in front of goal has been a major concern for McLeish’s men. The Buddies scored just four goals in their last seven league fixtures.

Particularly lacklustre in Paisley, St. Mirren scored just 11 goals in 19 home matches this season.

Partick Thistle Remain Tough-to-Beat

Partick Thistle make the short trip to Paisley with plenty of optimism despite last week’s 1-1 draw at Firhill. After falling behind in the first period, Aidan Fitzpatrick’s second-half strike ensured everything remains all to play for this week.

Thistle, who are aiming to return to the top flight for the first time in eight years, wasted several opportunities as they threatened to claim a first-leg victory.

The Championship side have proven a tough side to beat in 2026. Thistle lost only one of their last 21 matches across all competitions.

A strong defence has laid the foundations for Thistle’s promotion push. Mark Wilson’s men conceded only eight goals in their last 11 unbeaten fixtures.

Predicted Lineups and Team News

St Mirren (3-5-2) Gustas Tamosevicius; Alex Gogic, Miguel Freckleton, Marcus Fraser; Mark O'Hara, Richard King, Allan Campbell, Jacob Devaney, Scott Tanser; Killian Phillips, Mikael Mandron

Interim manager McLeish has two expected absentees this week. Liam Donnelly is unlikely to feature while Ryan Mullen remains sidelined with a hamstring injury and is not expected back until August.

Speaking after last Thursday’s first-leg encounter, McLeish expressed his relief at still being in the tie

"A bit of a game of two halves. I felt in the first half we carried out our gameplan pretty well, sustained pressure, a lot of corners, we created some chances.

"Maybe nothing too clear cut other than the goal. We were under a bit of pressure second half, then once they tire it opens back up again. We know what's at stake, we're not behind in the tie."

Partick Thistle (4-4-2) Josh Clarke; Ben McPherson, Lee Ashcroft, Daniel O'Reilly, Paddy Reading; Logan Chalmers, Robbie Crawford, Luke McBeth, Aidan Fitzpatrick; Tony Watt, Alex Samuel

Head coach Wilson has two players missing for the trip to Paisley. On-loan duo Oisin Smyth and Fraser Taylor are unavailable as they are unable to play against their parent club.

Wilson felt his side were unlucky not to claim victory in last Thursday’s 1-1 draw.

"We were ok first half, had a few chances but we were too open in the midfield. St Mirren exploited that and that's where the goal came from.

"I had to correct that at half time. It was a tough choice taking off one of our best players this season in Logan Chalmers to secure the midfield a bit better"

"But I thought it was effective. We controlled the majority of the second half and scored a very good goal. We were unfortunate not to get the second as well."

Verdict

With so much at stake, a tense affair is likely at the SMISA Stadium. I have my first stake on under 2.5 goals, while I also fancy Monday’s playoff to finish deadlocked.
