Excitement swept through York racecourse on Wednesday, as the Juddmonte International Stakes headlined the opening day of the Ebor Festival.

Baaeed stepped up in trip for the first time, having won five Group Ones in a row over a mile. William Haggas' unbeaten star faced off against the defending champion Mishriff, and Charlie Appleby's Classic winner, Native Trail, who had finished a place behind Mishriff when they met in the Coral-Eclipse.

News broke on the day that Baaeed had a rash. William Haggas was fined for not informing the BHA, but the rash was deemed non-contagious and punters weren't put off, as Baaeed calmly entered the stalls as the overwhelming 2/5 favourite.

Aidan O'Brien's raider, High Definition went straight to the front and seemed intent on stretching the stamina of the unbeaten market leader.

Mishriff, who had missed the break in both the Eclipse and the King George, left the stalls smoothly on this occasion. James Doyle positioned his mount behind the leader, with Native Trail sitting third along the rail. Baaeed travelled comfortably next to stablemate Dubai Honour in the early stages, as the slow-starting Sir Busker completed the chasing pack.

After four furlongs, Ryan Moore had opened up a decent lead on High Definition, as the leader tried to run the finish out of his rivals. Turning for home, however, the leader was swalled up and Mishriff hit the front.

Baaeed pushed passed Native Trail to latch onto Mishriff's tail entering the home straight. With two furlongs to travel, Jim Crowley unleashed his mount and the result was emphatic. Baaeed kicked four lengths clear of Mishriff on the run to the line, emphatically answering those who doubted his stamina.

Doyle was powerless to resist, allowing Mishriff to coast home in the final 100 yards. Sir Busker picked up well from the rear to beat Dubai Honour in the race for third. Native Trail and High Definition trailed home a long way behind the leaders.
